1989 Fleer Checklists - WITH positions
I only just discovered these variations - can anyone tell me their back-story? Were these actually in packs at some point? Were they proof versions spirited away before they could be destroyed? Trying to decide whether to add them (or at least 1 exemplar) to my want list. There's a few on eBay now for nearly $300 each.
Thanks! |
If they were prototypes rejected for the final design of the issued checklists then it would seem their numbers would be very scarce. If they were part of an early print run and it was decided to change the design before further runs were made, the number produced would depend on how early the change was made.
I have an unopened pack with my set but did not build the set through packs, so have no info on whether they made it into packs. I only have one of the CLs with positions |
Hello,
Those 89 Fleer checklists with positions are nearly impossible to find. I have opened tons and tons of 89 Fleer, and have never hit one. However, I was lucky enough to find 2 full sets of 7 cards each of the checklists with positions in 2 separate hobby factory sets about 5 years ago. I am not sure how this happened, but at some point, Fleer must have decided against printing checklists with positions, but like certain Ripken sawcuts, some made their way into sets at least. Again, I have never hit one nor heard of one hit in any 89 Fleer packs. Good luck! |
What type of Factory sets did you open that had the position checklists?? The red fancy box or the white box?

The plain white boxes with red lettering, these are the hobby factory sets.
