52 topps mantle psa 8

Just sold for $1,095,000 in heritage last night which is a huge drop in value compared to previous sales.
One sold for $1.6 million in goldin on 1-31-21 and one sold for 2.1 million in July 2021 and another sold for 2 million on 10-27-21.
Last November 11-17-22 one sold for $1,470,000 in heritage and it was way more off centered than the one that sold last night.

Nice to see prices coming down a little.

Funny enough, it looks like other PSA 8s have sold for as much as $2M. Although during 2021 they have been as low as $800k.

I'm sure that the centering pedants will be quick to let you know that this one has sketchy centering, and is crazy tilted. If nothing else, it's almost certainly an early cert, so it might be more like a 6 or a 7 if it was graded today.

Having said that, it sure looks nice to me, and looks like it deserves the 8 grade.

In similar news from the same auction, a SGC 9 1953 Mays sold for "just" $360k with the juice, here:

It had a pre-auction estimate of $800k+, so the final price seems pretty weak by comparison. I will admit that the chipping on the lower right border scared me a bit, so I didn't ever seriously consider chasing this one. That and I figured it would probably reach $800k as soon as I started bidding on it.

Considering that a PSA 8 of this card sold for ~$180k just a few months ago, I was sure that this SGC 9 would go for a lot more than $360k.

This is impossible. I have been reliably informed by esteemed members that 52 Mantles can never go down and the smart move is to empty my 401K to buy them. At least, I think that's what they said, it was hard to hear over the screeching when the 9.5's damage was pointed out. Pumps to the moon, rocket emoji.

Great looking card
But like everything else it is a collection but it is also still a long term investment and there are wins and loses. Hopefully we all are in it for the enjoyment and stay within our budgets

I know many that over invested in moderns and got burned big time. Pre WW2 seems less impacted with some of the key players still showing strong prices

Let’s see with the major drop in value of 52 topps mantle psa 8 if the lower grades will drop in value as well.

Here's a low grade authentic Mantle that just sold for $13,200 in Heritage. Seems high to me for this card so looks like lower grade Mantles still aren't going to be cheap.

Lower grades won’t be cheap but expect them to drop in value as well.

I don't understand either. Maybe because the ones crowing were the hype-o-crits that were selling them?
