1977 RC Cola can variations

I recently acquired this lot of cans and as I was cleaning them up and taking inventory I noticed only a few in the lot had an additional stamp on the top of the can encouraging consumers not to litter. I provided a side by side of a Ron Cey can that shows the top smooth and the top stamped. Not sure if they were manufactured differently at different plants or if they came from the same plant at different times. Is there a place on the can that indicates where the can was created, similar to a coin mint?

Yes, differently at different plants, maybe related to different machinery.
The plant name should be on the side near the seam.

The ones from New Rochelle NY had stamps in ink saying "kosher for passover"
I think it was both years, but only early in the year cans. But I haven't looked at mine in a long time so I might be wrong.

Every can I have says Los Angeles, CA. Only one says distributed by…

My guess is some were probably distributed as 6 or 12 packs and others were purchased individually at convenient stores. Who knows though?

I can see the dregs now cherry-picking the Pete Roses and Tom Seavers at the local 7-11.

I think I have 6-7 different Garvey cans with the different bottling plant locations. I would chase these more seriously, but they are pricy to ship and usually are overpriced singles or giant lots with $30+ s/h charges!!

Hey now, I resemble that remark!

Only it was rice and Yaz I looked for, or ones I didn't have.
70 in 1977, but not numbered.
100 numbered in 78
In between
70 football
35 basketball which are not as easy as you'd think. Fewer places had them.

I'm still a few short on 78s, and not all that close on either Fb o basketball.

I don't have them any more, but I clearly remember having many cans with a non-pull tab top. It was two pre-punched holes (one larger, one smaller) that you pushed in to open the can.

Yes it caused many cut fingers. Probably why it never took off. Here's a news story about them

Neat article, thanks for sharing. I had never seen those types of can tops before.

I have the complete sets from both years...all opened from the bottom. I will check the tops when I get a chance.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...b093a5faf7.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...53b7700e4d.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...c12e36b2be.jpg

Pretty sure I have the entire set with the square boxes, but I like the round baseball versions better. I'd like a full set of those, but probably will never bother to try for reasons stated above.

The round ones are 78, the rectangles are 77.

The 78 set isn't too hard, I just got to around I think 90 or so and didn't really work at the last 10.

These bring back a good memory of my childhood. Glad so many seemed to have survived. they certainly are not scarce in general.
