Definitely with the posts about "Looking For Offers".

Some honesty would be "Looking for an offer that dwarfs the highest sale in history by a minimum of 50% if not 100. Will hold a grudge and consider it an insult if anything under 20% over highest VCP in the past 3 years is sent."

Then a follow up post two weeks later that reads "Really!? No one wants this gem?"

icurnmedic 10-24-2022 11:45 AM

Maybe already mentioned , but I always chuckle at the
"well centered for the grade " ones.
Looks like Fido's rear otherwise, but hey its centered.

No takers? = My listing has been posted for a few hours and someone else made a post so I am bumping mine back to the top.

That's my biggest complaint. I like being able to see sold prices bc I think it helps everyone determine current market price.

After 2 weeks unable to sell....

'Now accepting reasonable offers' - means my asking price was unreasonable..

Great point. Auction houses post prices realized. Why can't we?

Even leaving the asking price doesnt say what it actually sold for......people know how much you sell your house for, your biggest asset for most, but a big secret if a card asking price was for $230 or $300 and need a whistleblower to come forward with the asking price.

Kutcher55 11-25-2022 06:32 PM

1. I can’t believe this hasn’t sold yet.

2. Rather than give you an asking price I want to have a long email conversation so that I can waste your time.

Kutcher55 11-25-2022 06:35 PM

3. Exceptional for the grade. ++. In other words I expect above comps for this card.

Bcwcardz 11-25-2022 08:44 PM

I won’t offer if there is no price. Listening to offers. Just name your price. If you want to have bids on it put it up for auction.

My favorite part of that one is it is always the same day it was listed and many times within a few hours. Gotta get that bump in early and often.:)

nice card!

When say 'nice card' that means every other card you list is not a nice card if doesnt say that next to the listing..

"Christmas rack packs"

1952boyntoncollector 12-01-2022 05:31 AM

card comes from my PC

'card for sale from my PC' means will be charging more that market price and card wont be any better looking than most comparable ones. I may of bought the card last week but its my PC, personal collection or i have a Punitive Cost in it...

1952boyntoncollector 12-02-2022 08:18 AM

eye appeal

Great eye appeal- for someone not wearing glasses that needs to wear them.

1952boyntoncollector 12-07-2022 06:57 PM

when card just posted... asking x. but will accept reasonable offers...

means within 10 percent of the asking or else angry at the person that made the offer. Even though a few days later, the card is bumped with a price reduction of 10 percent..

1952boyntoncollector 03-20-2023 11:19 PM

PSA 10 or 9.5

'card looks good in hand' - geez is a psa 10 it BETTER look good in hand......you would think someone would say that if its a psa 3 or something.......saying psa 10, is a a beauty....heck it better be!

Fun topic. Lots of you of hit on the more well-known ones, so here's my
offering. I'm surprised- I guess that's the proper word- by the number of
folks who can't grasp that a card can possess good centering, or be
well centered, and not be "perfectly centered". I'm a centering-oriented
person, and even I am taken aback by people who say they don't like a card
because it's not "perfectly" centered, especially vintage and older. I usually
say something to the effect that it seems the person is looking for a card
that is a 9, but somehow got trapped in a 7 holder. It's the old Inigo Montoya
quote from "Princess Bride"- "I do not think that word means, what you think
it means". It's a quirk I suppose:) Trent King

Flip side for seller

Twenty or so years ago sold a 52 Topps Mantle on eBay graded a 2-(around $3200.00) --buyer asked why it went so cheap he paid and we shipped--there you go!

The hypothetical card of which you speak:

If they're selling it, they'll say the NM 7 is "dead centered" and "should have been a Mint 9."

If they're trying to buy the same card, they'll say, "it's a little off-centered, that 7 was a generous grade. It looks more like a 6."

Same card, same person, 2 very different perspectives. The rough translation? They're basically saying, "Free money, free money. Somebody told me flipping cards was easy. C'mon, man...gimme free money."

"WTB, paying top dollar" _sounds_ simple, until the lengthy email chain about what does and does not count as a comp. And heck with "eye appeal," I'm looking for "wallet appeal." :-)
