George Leroy "Hooks" Wiltse

I enjoyed all of the great cards and memorabilia folks rolled out when I started a thread on Heinie Zimmerman. (https://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=323636)
Here's the SABR bio for Geoge Leroy "Hooks" Wiltse: https://sabr.org/bioproj/person/hooks-wiltse/ "A lean six-footer with deep-set eyes and a wad of tobacco usually in his mouth (he reportedly cost himself a victory in a game against the Cincinnati Reds on June 19, 1905, when he swallowed a quid and suffered an upset stomach), Wiltse won in double figures in each of his first eight seasons with the Giants, compiling a 139-90 record and 2.47 ERA over 12 seasons in the major leagues."Let's see some Wiltses. |

Not mine, but one of the Jersey City cards that I need for my team set that I will likely never own. Used to be Leon's (hi Leon) but he sold it with his collection years ago and I snagged an image of it. I believe it is the only known example.

Here's a D303. I just noticed the caption is not for Brooklyn. Wiltse was on the NY Giants through 1914 and Brooklyn in 1915.

Hey guys,
Trivial Trivia....Wiltse (pitching) card missing a DOT after the Y in the N Y caption. This is the only occurence of such an omission in the T206, and T215-1 sets. Yet more
Tres más - and by far the least attractive of any of the cards posted thus far, IMO.

Cycle was missing, adding this example that used to be mine.

Representing the chewy side of collecting is this E95 Philadelphia Caramel of Wiltse.
I always thought he had a very distinctive face...one you could easily pick out in a crowd. Brian |
