Another Saints bat. This one is a beater, but I haven't seen another Alex Gaston before.

Nice Bat! Mine just came in the mail yesterday...an Eddie Ainsmith 1910-1915 gamer with a letter from Taube to boot. Besides collection vintage game bats, the tie to this player is that in 1947 he was the manager of the Rockford Peaches which I also collect. A great vault bat and I love the 100 plus bat nails on the backside.

I lost track of the month and posted this in August pickups. I'll post it here, because it's very possible this will be my "haul" for the entire month.

Carter08 09-05-2021 12:17 PM

Not sure if this link will work but I picked up my first photo. From the 1937 All Star game. Was able to pick up a psa ticket from the game as well and plan on framing them together. Thanks to Snapolit for finding recommending this one - I’ve been stalking a photo for a while.

Awesome Chris!

That one landed in the right place for sure. What a dynamic Reds display piece... never seen another one of those. Great pickup!

Actually an August pick up. Leather wrapped handle bat 34", circa 1860s/1870s. Barrel has "TECH" impressed on it. Remarkable, uncracked condition. Thanks to a board member for making it available to me.

perezfan 09-05-2021 05:06 PM

Wow Gary! Those early leather-wrapped handle bats are rarer than hens' teeth. What a score.... and in beautiful condition, no less. Just fantastic!

eastonfalcon19 09-05-2021 06:14 PM

Those bats are just amazing!

Beeutiful bat. I suppose that the Ainsmith name on the knob means that this was the bat that became his signature model. What does the letter say?

Probably belongs here in another thread, but here are two more examples of this sort of bat...

Enjoy yours in good health, Gary!

And, like Gary, I've been late to post as well...I'll be adding some new pick-ups here in a bit even though a couple of them were late August acquisitions.

Cheers,
Jonathan

Like Gary, I have to thank a fellow board member for a few of my newest acquisitions...its been an absolute pleasure swapping items back and forth.

1. Circa 1870s composite CDV of the Active BBC of Reading, PA
2. Circa late 1860s/1870s CDV of a baseball player from Ohio

Circa 1860's - 1870's baseball bat with unique knob. This bat is made of a heavy, dense wood and features a style of knob I've only ever seen on trophy/presentation bats of the period. While this is not a presentation bat, its a really nice example of the style.

After many years of wanting one and waiting for the right specimen (condition wise) to come along, I have finally added an example of the 1866 Peverelly book of American Pastimes.

Thanks, B!

bgar3 09-06-2021 07:31 AM

Good stuff.
I especially like the bats, Gary and Jon. I am also partial to books and think the Peverelly is outstanding. It is just an amazing early history.

Picked up this rare Fred Lynn gamer from 1973-75. Has model number M110, so it matches his records from 1975 (ROY & MVP year).

That is a cool looking knob on that old bat.

I just bought another Louisville Slugger Bat Bank. This one has Mantle and Aaron. It should look nice on top of my bat display.

Love those little bat racks. Nice pick up Ben.

Got this pair of little kid tee ball bats in the mail today. Got one cheap and one I paid up for. Done great on them as a pair.:)

I just counted and these put me at 27 different Wade Boggs bats. I have everything from a 1/1 All Star Game bat to these tee ball bats.

1962 Salada Coins - Yankees Team and Shield. It came nicely framed and ready to be hung.

I not sure that it's right to have a Fenway Park pennant is close proximity to the Yanks....might need to rethink that.

As long as the Yanks frame is higher on the wall you’re doing it right. Now you just need something Mets to put above them both.

Beauty of a bat. Interesting that it is rare.

The many differences in the uniforms is interesting/unusual for a small group of players. I like it.

Thanks, guys....I was looking for some comments and the other forum was not obliging :).

It took over 2 weeks but I finally got my LS bat bank with Mickey Mantle and Henry Aaron bats.

I think it really looks nice on the top of my bat display with the caps, Wade Boggs doll, and other bat bank.

Steve Busby 1st no-hitter ticket stub

2 Attachment(s)
I'm happy to have recently picked up this beautiful Steve Busby 1st no hitter ticket stub from the game played on 4/27/73 @ DET.
Busby and the KC Royals defeated LP Jim Perry and the Tigers 3-0.

O/T but ironically, Tigers pitcher Jim Perry ended up being the LP in a second no-hitter less than 3 months later on 7/15/73 @ DET.
The 7/15 no-hitter was the career best 17K 2nd of 7 no-hitters for HOF Nolan Ryan, the all-time No-Hit King.

Busby would pitch another no-hitter the following year, on 6/19/74 @ MILW.

Despite the 4/27/73 Busby no-hitter having over 16,000 in attendance, I have found this ticket to be unbelievably difficult to find.
In 50 years of collecting this theme I have only seen 4 ticket stubs enter the hobby, this one being the nicest example condition-wise.

Great pickup Scott. I didn't know that Busby had 2 no hitters, but do remember his career was cut short due to a shoulder injury.

Nice stuff, guys.

With all the craziness of Mantle's debut stub...I found this clean example from later that season. Mantle was 1 for 4, RBI...Joe D had a triple, multi-hit game (both, last of his career).
