Any Exhibit Card Experts Out There?
1 Attachment(s)
Hi all. I have a question if someone knows the answer. I have a small stack of baseball exhibit cards and they all have a grey background as shown in the photo. The white around it is for comparison sake. Does anyone know when these were produced or by whom? These are all mint and all stars like Mantle, Mays, Aaron etc. If they were original I could retire but know they aer not.
Any help would be greatly appreciated and inquiries to sell also welcome. Thanks in advance, Tony |
I'm pretty sure the darker gray backs are bad. I seem to recall someone reprinted a bunch of guys from the mid 1950s. It's always the same players. Here's a list I found from a Google search:
Aaron Berra (Yogi version) Campanella Ford (pitching version) Fox Hodges (B on Cap) Mantle (No White outline version) Mays (Batting) Musial (Kneeling) Newcombe (Dodgers on Jacket) Reese (ball visable version) Snider (B on Cap) Spahn (B on Cap) Williams (#9 not showing) |
Chris, that list is hilarious! That's every guy in the stack except Musial, Berra and Campy. I figured they were reprints, just didn't know if they were official or had any value. I'll let the kid's hamsters tear them up and use them for bedding!
Thanks for the info. PS - How's the M101-6 project going these days? |
Fake as a three-dollar bill. Sorry. I first saw those type about 20-30 years ago.

Not only are Gray backs all reprints, the same goes for white backs too.
Original U.S. Exhibits have a cream color back. |
