Re: George Wright Grave Dirt

The bar has been lowered to an all-time low. Has this guy no respect or ethics?
How morbid can someone get? Auctioning dirt from a grave? Seriously?

Jason 08-05-2014 03:03 PM

Very creepy. Authentic dirt from near his gravesite;)

HOF Auto Rookies 08-05-2014 03:06 PM

Actually, the listing says from near his grave site. Heck, it could have come from the park near the cemetary. Either way, I agree with you. Wherever the dirt came from, it is a pretty low thing to do.

ZachS 08-05-2014 03:08 PM

What's creepier... the guy selling or the 5 people that have bid on it so far?

sebie43 08-05-2014 03:10 PM

Creepy and downright macabre in my book.

Brian Van Horn 08-05-2014 03:30 PM

This is so wrong in so many different ways.

yanksfan09 08-05-2014 04:26 PM

disgusting. anyone bidding on this is just as bad. This is the last thing this hobby needs becoming any type of fad....

Macabre is the perfect word to describe this. Sad to think that some sort of cottage industry exists for this type of thing...

Best regards,

Eric

Is it legal to remove dirt from a graveyard?

the 'stache 08-06-2014 09:52 PM

Just when you think you've seen it all. Good lord.

ZenPop 08-06-2014 10:24 PM

I'm assuming that this came from the same guy that previously auctioned his own soul.

Jobu 08-06-2014 11:06 PM

Sheesh, sketchy auction. Some people will do anything to make a buck (or, as it turns out, three). Also notable is that fact that there were 4 people who bid on this whose bids were less than $3.15 - talk about adding insult to injury...

wonkaticket 08-07-2014 01:47 AM

Finally a new angle to get money in the hobby. I've told a few folks over the years I wonder how long before we start seeing families selling bones of past ball players. :D

mrvster 08-07-2014 05:23 AM

Wonka....

I remember about 20 years ago, an AH had someone's (Cobb's?) dentures.

Cobbs dentures were part of the halper collection...a board member has them...personally I wish I had bid on them!

brian1961 08-07-2014 12:07 PM

Tell that guy to make a mud pie out of dat dirt, then thrust it into his face with all his might, let sit, and viola, he'll now have a classic impression. By George, that would be the "Wright" move!
