Parkhurst Hockey!

Hi Everybody -

I’ve been loving the challenge as well as the cards in going after the 1955, 1957, and 1961 Parkhurst sets. Here’s a subset of the 55s I just finished.

What do you have to show from vintage Parkhurst sets?

Thanks for posting the link to that YouTube video Tom. I really enjoyed it. And RIP Gordon Lightfoot 5/1/23 I was a fan of his music back in the day but I did not know of his love of hockey.

I picked this card up today at our local show. 1957-58 Parkhurst RC Frank Mahovlich HOF just three left to complete my set. This is like a $250 card in decent shape so I was glad to hand over $2

That $2.50 Mahovlich

Larry - I too need four 1957 Parkhursts. I try to keep my sets in clean condition and I’ll sometimes pay a premium to do so. But I’d grab a $2.50 Mahovlich like yours even at five times what you paid.

People sometimes ask me how much a card of a particular player might be worth. I reply that it depends upon the condition. For a vintage superstar rookie card, you could pay a grand or two for a blazing beauty or find a beater for $30.00. Collectors have a balancing point - would I pay $$$ for that particular card that’s nice but has a dinked corner? Or do I go for the budget-friendly creased card? How low can I go on condition, how high can I go on price?

Some cards you can’t pass up.

The rest of your cards are cool too. I’m getting close on 55, 57, and 61.

Look at the trunk on this doughnut magnate. Granted, he’s wearing hockey pads, but he’s got thick thighs and a big rear end. Wouldn’t want to get checked by him.

Horton was tough as nails with the build of a professional weight lifter. He was recognized by most players during his tenure as the strongest player in the league. He didn't start problems on the ice.... but boy, could he finish them. lol

The 1955 Harry Lumley is arguably my favorite Parkhurst card. It was the first numbered card in the set because Lumley was coming off winning the Vezina the prior season.

Four nice Parkhurst cards of Terry Sawchuk, the dominant goalie of the early 1950s. Shown are the 1952, 1953, and two 1954 Parkhurst. The action card is the last card in the 54 set, titled “Sawchuk stops Boom Boom.”

Nice looking cards, Brian.

Great goalie and one of my favorites of all time.

Love all the vintage Sawchuk cards. Love to pick one up (not via eBay) but my local hockey dealer has them insanely priced.
