For the 19th Century/Japan baseball buffs- TV/Web report on founder of Japanese Baseball

Posted By: Adam Baxter

Interesting report on New England Cable News about the man credited with bringing the National Game to Japan in the 19th Century.

Link to video: http://www.boston.com/news/necn/Sports/

The reporter spoke with Miriam Johnston a descendant of Wilson (He was her Great Uncle) and she shared a really nice photo of him in his Civil War uniform.

The skinny on Wilson:

Horace Wilson (1843-1927) was a native of Gorham, Maine. He was a Civil War veteran and English professor who taught at Tokyo University in Japan after the Meiji Revolution. He is credited with being the first American to introduce baseball to the Japanese in either 1872 or 1873. He was elected by special committee to the Japanese Baseball Hall Of Fame in 2003.

Enjoy,
Adam
