Gehrig streak ends 1939
 
On this date in 1939 Gehrig benched himself.

Piece below is fascinating and sad. Some of you may have seen it before, I haven't.

At some point I will get a Gehrig Card. Just do not know which and when. although probably a while down the road.

I'm still chasing down my first Gehrig. I should have many of him as he's my favorite ballplayer, but alas, pre-WW1 has been my focus for a lot of years.

That is a cool read! I recently acquired the very bat in this photo, which was taken on May 2, 1939 in Detroit, and Gehrig is pictured with Detroit's rookie, Barney McCosky. McCosky was one of the few players pictured with Gehrig that day, and the bat is photo-matched to that exact day!
