1955 Johnston Cookies Help

I know these were printed in slightly thinner stock, as these seem to be so. All are trimmed. I don’t believe the gold star stickers are any older than 30-40 years. Some of the other tape marks appear they might be appropriately aged. Got these from a trusted dealer in Ohio, that I’ve been buying from for 15 years, brick and mortar that gets many legit vintage collections. These were all together with some other mid early 50’s hodge podge, but nothing major. Anyone have much experience with these? How do these look to you all? https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...199d40d62f.jpg

Ok

They all appear to be original to 1955. I love these cards.

I have been "working" on the 3 Johnston Cookies sets for years. I have finished the 1953 set and will never finish the 54 or 55 set primarily because of the Aaron. These all look legit from what I can see except I have never seen a Gold Star on any so have no idea what that means. The reprints I am aware of is the 1988 JALFCO REPRINT and this is notated above the "Every Time" line on back.
Attached is the back of part of an original strip card series.

The gold star is just something a kid added because a baseball card was just a prized possession. Maybe it marked the owner's favorite player(s). Looks like a coat of paste was applied to it afterwards so it would stay on longer.

That makes sense, especially since the Braves had just recently moved to Milwaukee and, also, the cookies were good!!

Thanks for all the input… i know not every older card out there gets that signature “smell” to it over time, and these cards i was unable to pick up any musty scent like with goudeys or bowmans… as i understand, thinner card stocks don’t hold in much of the moofy scent.

The '55 set came in strips of six cards, and they were cut apart mostly with scissors. Yours have the borders trimmed off — I've owned a few that looked just like this.

1955s

The 55s are larger than most other issues around that time. Maybe the kid took a scissors to these so they fit better in a stack with the rest of his cards?
