Michael:

Thanks for turning the photos right side up. Can you educate me on how to do this?

I may do a bit more than others on this. I right clicked and copied the photo to a folder. Using Ulead Photo Express I opened the photo and flipped it and saved it. I also cropped it, then enhanced, lightened and saved the crop. I opened Adobe Photoshop and using the 'save for the web' function I increased the size of the cropped signature and saved it.

This is an odd sneaker. It is a New Balance running shoe. I would suspect an runner, but they don't use numbers. It could be a soccer player, but that does not look like a cleat.

I really don't know, this is a total guess. I don't have an real knowledge but since there is a number you didn't think it was a runner, but what if they ran the race with a number, maybe they signed it with that number and handed their shoes over.

But its the style of the letter, agian with no real knowledge but my guess would be a basketball player from China.

Hopefully, someone has real knowledge to help you more, but that's my 1.5 cent opinion. You can send me a check if you find out I am right!

Actually, I see what look like two cleats in the third picture, one on the heel, and one between the ball and the arch of the shoe.

Yes Steve:

These are cleats so I assume a baseball player. MAY BE a Red Sox as this came from a Red Sox fan's collection.

Looks like...

An early Cole Hamels

Makes sense. The collection of my deceased friend was from Philly.

Do I hear a "second" on this being a Cole Hamels autograph?

THANKS! That seals it for me.

I agree, it's definitely Cole Hamels.

There are also multiple photos of Hamels on ebay, where he's wearing New Balance cleats.
