REA - dammit I'm out already

Got bids on about 8-9 items, obviously outbid on all, but now I'm out for extended.

Strong prices have knocked me out.........a 1st round KO.

I do have some consignments so I will make some money, but was hoping to get something.

Not a chance.

........on to next weekend and Love of The Game!

Not done there......................................yet.

ullmandds 08-14-2022 04:06 PM

ive got a few bids hanging on...but I'm likely done bidding. not much I have to have these days.

cubman1941 08-14-2022 04:24 PM

I have one still hanging around

babraham 08-14-2022 04:56 PM

I put bids in on five lots of the many that I was watching.
Still "winning" two of them, but doubt they'll even make it to extended.

talkinbaseball 08-14-2022 05:14 PM

I was outbid a long time ago.

Any of you smart enough to consign rather than buy, are already ahead of
me:) My rule with REA is to just come out with one win per auction, just one.
We shall see... Trent King

iwantitiwinit 08-14-2022 05:21 PM

I'm in a similar position, put in 5 strong bids (I thought), I'm out on 3 already have 2 left with a little room but think I'm only have a true chance at one of them and it's not the one I really want.

Prior I put in a lot of preliminary bids and then some upped on the key ones I was thinking of.
Currently leading on 1 but most are already above my comfort zone
I will make it to round two but will probably be KO’d

Im out already ... but Tribe/ Guardians won so its a good day..ha

IndyDave 08-14-2022 05:59 PM

I’m down to one. Just upped the bid one more increment. Doubt it holds. We will see

Good luck to all

The wealth in the hobby has never been stronger ! Money Money Money Money it always shows up in the Big Boy Auctions REA Heritage Memory Lane and Mile High bring out the big guns with big wallets.

Bobbycee 08-14-2022 06:48 PM

These prices are unreal! So much for National & other auction fatigue.

Schlesinj 08-14-2022 07:14 PM

I noticed too late the 56 game hit streak combo ( ticket/signed program). I own a program already, but been looking for a ticket.

Johnny630 08-14-2022 07:39 PM

Well a 52 Mantle in SGC 5 holder is now almost 305k adding the juice

jh691626 08-14-2022 07:45 PM

Yeah, they had one item I thought was really cool, putting in a bid that I thought was way over what anyone else would bid…and I am just barely hanging on. We’ll see but yikes.

nwfsteve 08-14-2022 09:20 PM

I got to about 11 p.m. before I got knocked off a 52 Bowman Mantle PSA 7. Trying to see if I could bring it home for four digits instead of 5.

HawkFan70 08-14-2022 09:35 PM

I snuck in one late bid and hoping it holds on...out on everything else.

REA-What a great way to extend a day
Crash at 12

tiger8mush 08-14-2022 10:14 PM

back up, lots close at 12:31am EST

Rad_Hazard 08-14-2022 10:56 PM

I'm pretty sure I got the card I wanted. It says it's closed now. It's definitely nice being on MST than EST for these endings. My first real auction house purchase.

mrreality68 08-15-2022 04:57 AM

Wound up being a window shopper.

Really nice items, strong prices

felada 08-15-2022 05:18 AM

I was mainly watching the 19th century items. Some lots went for what I thought were stupid prices. Some went really cheap or didn’t sell at all like the FBH Mutrie.

pretty much anything Ruth or Jackson but main items were

1916 Sporting News Joe Jackson
1908 Rose Postcard Christy Mathewson
1926 Exhibit Ruth
1927 Exhibit Ruth
1922 e120 Caramel Ruth
1915 Ruth Photo
1923 Maple Crisp Ruth
1920 Societe Anonyme Ruth
1916 BF2 Felt Pennant Jackson
1913 Tom Barker Jackson

bobbyw8469 08-15-2022 06:04 AM

Strong prices. The 20% buyers premium played into my bids though.

The early stuff was so cool to see. Jackson and Ruth prices continue to be out of this world.

Well...I read about the "downage" this morning...I no longer stay up late for auctions...no card is more important than my sleep!

I was relieved to have been outbid on 1 card...I DID win one. Happy to add this ruth to my stable.

Congrats Pete.

Jeff, I was wondering whether I would battle you on this Ruth.

Thrilled to have picked these two up, and I think I got them both at very reasonable prices.

Regarding the auction: (i) OK REA, I love you, but enough with the extended bidding glitches already. Figure that out once and for all, as its becoming a major detraction from what is otherwise one of the best auction events of the year. (ii) I thought prices in general were very strong. There were some bargains, but last night's results generally indicate that pre-war vintage remains strong

mrreality68 08-15-2022 08:29 AM

yep Ryan

That was the primary Ruth I wanted. Lucky for you and sad for me that my recent splurge on 6 Ruth Cards kept me grounded.

Great pick up and Congrats.

There is always a next auction and a next auction and so on

I'm a low-roller so this was my win. I was a bit shocked by how cheap it went for. I can finally add my favorite 19th century player to my collection!

becollie 08-15-2022 08:54 AM

It looks like I significantly overpaid for the E-90 Young but thrilled to finally pick up a version that at least looks to be well centered with strong registration. In my view one of the 5 most beautiful cards of all time and this will be my third time owning one ... hopefully the third time is the charm :-)

Great adds Ryan I was happy to snag the E120. Took my to about where I thought it would top, on to LOTG. Jeff I should’ve contacted you and I sure never want to bid up fellow members.

Josh Great pick up. was looking at it but glad another member of the forum picked it up.

I feel I am letting down the forum...:)

LOTG is around the corner I am ramping up my game for it....lol

Jeff, Thanks man I was hoping to get it a little less as I’ll want to reslab. It hit my top and was a nail biter to the end. I was anxious on the 20 min countdown. The color and centering for the issue I figured I better not let it pass.

rjackson44 08-15-2022 09:19 AM

i won the catalog

Snapolit1 08-15-2022 09:27 AM

This letter is an amazing piece. I went to sleep leading at 17k and expected to lose later on for sure, but was stunned to see the final price. Would love to have this.

That Young was, in my opinion, hands down the best looking card in the auction. I am sorry to admit that I was the underbidder and likely cost you some money, and I almost went back at it again. Congratulations on grabbing a gorgeous example of a key card.

Josh, great pick-up. Not too shabby either!

Red- nice pickup. Those Scrappss are very cool

Octovia- LOL. Enjoy. I am happy to give you mind. In fact, I tried to opt out of getting a catalog and I could not figure out of I could. I would be happy if you got mine and then you would have two

Yes. A buyer's premium of any amount plays into everyone's bids.

Shankweather 08-15-2022 09:48 AM

I was in on the 1882 White Stockings Cabinet and the PSA 9 1961 Billy Williams, but the Williams really took off and I couldn't swing getting both. That's gotta be a record high for that card.

Agreed, loved this one!

I won the 9-page 1910 Cobb letter, great insight into Cobb's personality and the "I am with you" under the signature sealed it for me.

All I won was a good night's sleep! Was outbid before 9 pm :p
