Goldin Auctions New Site

What is happening with the Goldin Auction site? I hope they don't think this is an improvement over what they had.

https://goldin.co/buy?sort=Featured&view=list

Republicaninmass 11-24-2021 02:13 PM

Its horrendous. Maybe it's like a flip phone "unhackable"

Arazi4442 11-24-2021 02:34 PM

I can’t even scroll more than a few pages without the screen going black on me. I understand they had a needed to upgrade but you’d think there might be a little more testing before using in on live auctions.

rand1com 11-24-2021 03:02 PM

It is definitely Not an upgrade.

mrreality68 11-24-2021 03:05 PM

They may have a reason for it. But I do not like the look or the functionality of it.

Perhaps overtime it will improve or I will get used to it.

But at the moment I am not a fan of it

ejharrington 11-24-2021 03:17 PM

I can't review historical results.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Oh wait, you were being serious.

Have the past couple years' worth of issues with Goldin Auctions and their web sites not shown you that this is an area where they skimp?

Peter_Spaeth 11-24-2021 06:59 PM

Looks OK on Google Chrome?

Actually they upgraded to 1990’s technology and still configuring it

All joking aside. I hope this is only their first step in their upgrade process.

That just means your old phone is to advanced for their technology

Welcome to the 20th century, unfortunately it's taken them until the 21st

Trying to use the new Goldin Auctions site for the first time...what an absolute abomination.

Totally agree. I'm out.

mrreality68 12-10-2021 03:31 PM

Sadly I have been trying to use it for weeks. I do not like the look, feel and functionality of it.
I gave up on it

chriskim 12-10-2021 03:37 PM

I think those bidders who bid on those million dollars cards still call/mail in to place their bids so it doesn't matter how the website look. LOL

Yeah, whenever anyone changes a website you are comfortable with to something new immediately the urge is always to cry this is bad. Because its different.

But having played around on their new site a few times now. . . it does indeed suck. It's just boring first and foremost. Looks like they could be selling floor tile.

And this is coming from someone who doesn't even mind Hunts' much maligned website.

BRoberts 12-10-2021 04:15 PM

Fortunately for Ken and Co., webmaster supreme Bob Freedman would probably welcome them back in a heartbeat.

Honestly, I struggled mightily with their old website, could never figure out how to filter for baseball cards, especially vintage, and most of it was the shiny stuff. I only found anything if I searched specifically for keywords. As a result, I've purchased a grand total of one card from them ever. With the way they've been killing it with Pat Mahomes cards and such this year, you'd think they could afford a better interface, like the top tier auction houses have.

Shoeless Moe 12-10-2021 05:11 PM

Could just be me & my computer, but when you click on an image to have the image then blowup, it doesn't work. However, I'm going to 2 other auction house Sites and the images are blowing up for me.

I like to see that super-sized image on some items.

Again, could just be me, but anyone else having this problem?

I'll try again tomorrow on a different computer.

The images are super-sized when I click on them. Im using Google Chrome.

One problem with the new site is I dont see the total amount that you have bid on across lots. Or the total ceiling bid you have placed across all lots.

Ive played with their new site as well over the last few weeks and Im just not a fan of it as others have said.

Rhotchkiss 12-10-2021 05:32 PM

I just went to their site/auction bc of this thread. First, I hate that when I click on a lot and then hit back it takes me to the top of the page, rather than where I was on the page when I clicked the lot. Second, Goldin is just not the AH for me at this point - a lot of modern and the vintage they have is not what I want. Indeed, my collecting tastes and Goldin have not been simpatico for a while. The upshot - one less AH I need to mind, and that’s a good thing!

As an aside, I have bought from Goldin in the past and have nothing but positive things to say about the outfit. If they listed what I collect, I would likely buy from them, notwithstanding their busted new platform.

notfast 12-10-2021 05:44 PM

The website is absolute trash. There is no way to search “title only” so when you search “2000 Tom Brady” you get anything with Tom, Brady, 2000 in the title or at least that’s what it looks like

It’s so frustratingly bad I have no desire to try to navigate it to even browse for things I might want to bid on.

Yeah, most images won’t blow up with the ‘magnifier’ feature for me either once you are at the full image size (or even on the listing page).

Hello everyone
I have sent a link to this thread to the entire tech team so everyone involved in the project can read your comments so please keep them coming.
Let me tell you the most positive features of the current site.
1. It won’t crash. Based on history this was the MOST important feature , having a stabile environment with great code on AWS. There will NOT be a site wide crash
2 it is lightening quick. Remember those emails we sent out at 8pm the final night every time saying ‘ please get your bids in prior to 930pm as the site may slow down’. This will NOT happen. Once you learn your way around, bidding is seamless and lightening quick and goes at the same pace at all times whether there are 100 people online or 100,000.
3 due to the stability and speed of the system we have a true extended bidding. If you used our prior auction site for the prior literally nine years you might have been or probably were frustrated as we approach and were in extended bidding as images loaded slowly, lot to lots movement went slowly , descriptions loaded slowly etc. as there was heavy traffic. This is not the case now and instead of our auction going up by a certain percentage the final day in our most recent auction which closed Wednesday our total volume in the auction tripled meaning the auction, closed at 3x the total GMV for the sale when we entered the final day. This is mind boggling and showed what the system and fast bidding is capable of.

There are a lot of features that need to be added, and a lot of things that can be made more user friendly. I can tell you from experience once you have an unbelievably strong foundation it is a lot easier to add features and make a platform more user-friendly then it is to have the most user-friendly platform in the world that you were familiar with but that goes down all the time or slows up during heavy traffic periods.
So I ask you, use this thread as a criticism page: go ahead . we are happy to see it something bothers you post it something you don’t like about the site post it if you have a suggestion post it if you’d like to see improvements post it all I ask is instead of a post to say “this sucks“ let us know what about the experience you do not like and what you would change if you were the owner, and we will work on it for you. What I can tell you is our site can accommodate millions of users at the same time and is incredibly scalable so if you help us out with constructive criticism we will adapt and build it to suit your needs.
Thanks
Ken Goldin

To me, easy searchability is key. I tried it yesterday and found it terribly lacking. Maybe I needed to spend more time with it, but it seemed bad from what I experienced.

mrreality68 12-11-2021 07:55 AM

Well here is our opportunity to hopefully vent while making a difference.

Ken’ says post all our issues and concerns on usage and functionality and he will have team look into it

So let’s all try it and like on the opportunities and see what his does or does not do with our input.

Already there are many good posts

Lorewalker 12-11-2021 10:17 AM

Was just checking out the site both last night and today and it seems pretty slow to load pages. Wondering what that translates to on closing...

CardPadre 12-11-2021 11:01 AM

SUGGESTION: When on the 'Watching' and 'Bidding' pages, the image of the card is not clickable to view the listing...you have to click on the text. But when browsing the full auction, images are clickable and take you to the listing. Should be that way everywhere.

notfast 12-11-2021 11:18 AM

My simple suggestion is fix the search.

I shouldn’t get 3 signed footballs and an 8x10 if I put in 2000 Tom Brady.

Search “title only” seems to be the easiest way to fix. Obviously not having website crash during peak use is huge, but if buyers can’t find what they want, that won’t be a problem anyway.

I mean if I search “Lebron” the first item that shows up lot 1284. Not the #1 item and lot #1. That’s all that needs to be said about how poor the searching is.

this sucks

perezfan 12-11-2021 02:22 PM

The site is operating very slowly for me. Takes a looooong time to load each page, and the "back" button returns it to the wrong spot.

Compared to other Auctions' websites, this one seems very sluggish and laborious.... even Hunts is easier to navigate.

Hope this feedback helps.... some very nice items in this auction.

Goldin Auctions 12-11-2021 02:47 PM

Mark what system are you operating on?
It seems to be working very fast for me and everyone else who has tested it and nothing in any reports shows any slugging sluggishness can you email me ken@goldinauctions.com So we can pinpoint what operating system and browser you are using to try and find this issue

riggs336 12-11-2021 04:00 PM

Attempting to browse the auction on an Amazon Fire tablet:

When set to 96 items per page it is taking 2-3 minutes to completely load a page.

I will also echo above complaints about not returning to previous item.

I tried The search window and tried putting in different players from Brady, Jordan, wagner, Ruth, Jackson, etc

It seemed to work fast and accurate

Is there away for the “sort feature” to be set as a preference so I do not have to keep adjusting it with every search
For example if I want to view from highest price first and I do it then the next search can it be on that same sort mode?

thecomebacker 12-11-2021 06:59 PM

Yep, site / each page loads very slow for me as well. I am on an Apple IPad.

notfast 12-12-2021 08:03 AM

Glad the search got fixed as that at least allows people to try to find items they want to bid on.

Definitely still slow going “back” from “view lot” after a search. Half the time the page doesn’t even load and needs to be refreshed. This is on safari as well.

LOUCARDFAN 12-14-2021 05:37 PM

I like Goldin Auctions but their new site is absolutely horrible. Pages don't load correctly and when they do they are slow as can be for the pics to load. Back button is a nightmare. Why would they switch over to the new site without making sure EVERYTHING is correct? I have spent a decent amount of money with them over the last few auctions this year but the last two I just can't deal with trying to navigate this new site. It's just not worth the trouble.

rjackson44 12-15-2021 01:12 AM

Love ken horrible sight at times

Snowman 12-15-2021 05:47 PM

Listings are loading fast for me on both mobile and laptop. Using Firefox and Chrome browsers. Back button works fast too. I'm not experiencing any page loading issues.

Search also appears to have been fixed as it now returns relevant results.

Thanks Ken

thecomebacker 12-15-2021 11:15 PM

Annoying issues with the website during extended bidding:

1) During extending bidding, I would try to search my bids by HIGHEST CURRENT BID or LOWEST CURRENT BID. While I was scrolling, about 30 seconds later, the entire screen would reshuffle all the bids back to the default setting of ENDING SOONEST. It did this to reset/reshuffle to me at least 10 times while I was trying to search & scroll my bids to study the status of lots.

2) I think I won two lots, but, I cannot find them anywhere.
I go to ACCOUNTS-->BIDDING-->WINNING, and the lots that I thought I won, have disappeared.
There is no other menu I can find to show what I may or may not have won.
EDIT - I have to go to the specific lot page to see if I won or lost - but none of this info shows up in a Member Dashboard.

3) There was no dashboard to show the sum of my winning bids or winning + BP in dollar amounts.
The auction is still going on, and I would like to bid on more lots, but I don't know what I owe & I don't know for certain if I won anything.

What a dumpster fire.

That did not work.

When I would go to that same exact link you just described, the menu would just show all of the closed lots that I had a place holder bid on (40+lots).

The lots I won were probably in there, but why should I scroll through 40 lots I did not win, find my winning, and manually calculate what I owe ?

That info should be at my fingertips, clearly presented in a dashboard.

It did not show the lots that I won.

Good luck fixing the bugs.

Having bid totals is certainly on our priority list for my Tuesday meeting

CardPadre 12-19-2021 10:15 AM

Suggestion: I really like the feature on sites like Heritage where if you’re browsing all items or are on your bid/watch list page and you hover over an image of the card with your cursor, a bigger more detailed pop-up image appears. Saves some time vs having to click and go off the page you’re on and open up the whole listing to get a more detailed image.

I just updated my business site and hired very capable designers and programmers. It's not an easy or cheap task. I am on phase three of updates after go live and still have work to improve the UX. I'm potentially more forgiving and know that user feedback is productive so I'm sure they'd appreciate your experience as users. It looks like they pulled the trigger early and might not have had enough user testing. But, it's clean and not junked up. I can access and navigate it on my phone, mac and pc with no speed issues. I don't care for new shiny cards so I'm limiting my experience to navigation.
