Brockelman & Luckey - Time Travelers & Results

As a public service to the auction hounds on the Board, I am asking for clarification of the closing time of the current B & L Auction.

The terms and conditions info on the site states that the auction will end at 2AM EST this morning.

The countdown clock on the web page seems to be set to reach zero at 1AM CST this morning.

According to timeanddate.com (http://www.timeanddate.com/worldcloc...nge.html?n=263) clocks should be reset at 2AM and "sprung forward" at that time to 3AM.

If, in fact, the auction does end at 2AM EST (or 1AM CST), one could argue that the auction actually ends at 3AM EDT or 1AM CST and it really doesn't end at 2AM in anywhere.

Therefore I ask Mssrs. Brockelman and Luckey the following question.

Will the auction end at 1AM CST as suggested by the countdown clock, 2AM EST as suggested by the terms and conditions, or 3AM EDT which will supplant 2AM EST according to the clock setting instructions.

Actually the answer is all three,

but more importantly

How long will we have to keep our wives waiting?

Disclaimer - Actually a problem does not exist and everything is consistent, for those of you getting ready to post calling me an idiot, but of course you are entitled to your opinion on Net54.:D:D:D

talkinbaseball 03-09-2013 06:21 AM

great question

Frank,

good job, if we survive to 2:00 AM, do we get an extended hour till 3:00 AM for springing ahead?

I guess Leon & Scott get the final call.

john guzze

Leon 03-09-2013 06:33 AM

We had long talks with our software folks. Play like there is no time change and the auction is closing at 2am EST. That is the way it will close.
.

Also, If you are concerned about getting outbid at the last second, put in a max bid. No one but you will be able to see it. If someone tries to bid at the last second, and (your) bid is high at $100....and you have a max bid in the system of $200, Someone bids $200 at the last second, you will win as you had the first bid of $200. First in wins. It is instantaneous. I will be at a softball tournament until a bit later today but both Scott and I will be around all evening. There should be no confusion and all questions will be answered with plenty of time to make bidding and buying decisions.

That might have been the perfect post, Frank!!

A great question AND you managed to sneak in a picture of Rachel McAdams as well!!!!

I'm just about finished with my time machine and the controls are set for 1910. I quit smoking 17 years ago, but for this project I will be chain smoking Uzits, chewing Polar Bear, and snorting Drum tobacco. Send me some pre 1910 gold pieces and I'll try to fill your orders.

Anyone ever see the clip of the "Charlie Chaplin Time Traveler" - the old lady walking and talking into a "cell phone" in a 1920s movie?

You can't make this up!

I went to take a nap, I woke up at 2:02 AM

I was chasing the Orange Border T-210.

I didn't make it.
Maybe next time.

I was happy to pick up the lot of 7 Sepia HOF postcards at the minimum bid of $75. Finally, added Bulkeley to my collection, now just looking for the Chadwick.

This bid held up for me!
My first T204 HOFer after several attempts to find one that met my strict requirements of being as low condition as possible yet presenting well;)

Runscott 03-10-2013 11:00 AM

Wow. My bid held up....until it didn't.

Scott <=== B&L underbidder again :)

BVG slabs are harder than PSA but less so than GAI in my opinion.

Robextend 03-10-2013 01:43 PM

This E91B Chance completes the set for me. Just need a few more cards from the E91A set to complete the E91A, B & C series.

Jason- the orange borders cards went for about what I thought they would, the T210 which surprised me was the series 5 Lavell Cross in vgex which I was after. The final price was $325 and I just couldn't pull the trigger for one more bid. I'm used to buying series 5 vgexs for $75-100 so this one surprised me...

npa589 03-10-2013 02:51 PM

Me too Steven!

I have a rotary tool that I use now. I put a plastic cutting saw on there and cut at the top. Then I put a tiny flat head in there, and it pops right open.

got beaten out on the t206 walsh with 2 min left

peterose4hof 03-10-2013 03:06 PM

Unfortunately, I came up empty-handed in this one.

If someone here won the E90-1 Lot of 4 that included the Bescher and they want to sell it I am very interested. http://b-lauctions.com/LotDetail.aspx?inventoryid=4191

Also, from the mixed 1930-1940s lot I am interested in any of the Cincinnati Reds cards. http://b-lauctions.com/LotDetail.asp...30s-1940s-w%2f

PeteRose4HOF,

I know who won the lot, close friend of mine...I will see if he will part with the Cincy cards and if so, put you guys in touch.

I too was after the Lave Cross but it went from 80 to 200 plus in the blink of an eye.

kmac32 03-10-2013 03:49 PM

Was tempted by the E121 Ruth montage card but couldn't quite pull the trigger

Runscott 03-10-2013 04:00 PM

I was interested in the 'J.Wood' 1886 cabinets. Interesting and rare lot.

t206hound 03-10-2013 04:09 PM

I was able to snag the Chesbro and Young EPDG... Very happy with the price too.

Not pre war but fits nicely into my 1970 football set. Great card.

Bob - That Jones OB went for 7 bills with the juice and was a little higher than I anticipated. I was thinking $500, maybe $600 for Jones (due to uniqueness-Street Clothes) and the Johnston which was in a higher grade went for $400 which I thought was in range. Somebody wanted to keep up with the Joneses with that winning bid. I imagine it is going to be buried into a collection now.

I bought the Fred Mann sliding into home from the pitcher's mound with the Scholten mount. I wanted the old mill t206 lot w/ Chance and the n167 proofs, but I thought I'd let you guys win some stuff too.
