O/T Crazy eBay Story

https://boston.cbslocal.com/2020/06/...cyberstalking/

I'm making lunch right now and this crazy eBay story comes over on CNBC. I'm a retired editor so it sent a chill through me.

I know it has nothing to do with cards BUT I know many people on this forum use eBay so I thought I would make the forum aware.

You can't make this stuff up although great to see the employees involved were fired.

Peace and stay healthy.

conor912 06-15-2020 11:11 AM

Ugh. What's the matter with people?

D. Bergin 06-15-2020 11:35 AM

That's horrific. High level executives engaging in this is absolutely disgusting. This is top / down mob crime family level intimidation at Ebay.

I'm pretty sure I know which site this couple ran, and that I've been on it several times.

They impart a lot of information about Ecommerce selling in general, and yeah, it's become a haven for a lot of former disgruntled Ebay sellers, but Ebay has had a giant hand in that.

slantycouch 06-15-2020 11:55 AM

It's scary how far that went and the actions they took to cover their tracks. What a nightmare for that couple.

ibuysportsephemera 06-15-2020 02:22 PM

I am a longtime subscriber to their newsletter which provides very good information. Absolutely disgusting and I am glad that the eBay executives were caught and will be prosecuted.

I didn't see it specifically mentioned in the article, but this has to be ecommercebytes.com right?

And you wonder why I cut off those Mot*erF******?

E-bay is a sh** hole. You have the security and safety team doing this crap when they should be focusing on removing fakes and frauds from their site. They do nothing but sell counterfeit & fake items. Fake EVERYTHING. The brands that are sold on that sh**hole site should close them down.

I know not one card collector beside myself gives a sh**. I'm not supporting their Fake bulls** platform for even a Kewpie doll. They are crooked, allow & promote fraud and you guys eat it up in the fake hard plastic containers with numbers and a laughable registry where other idiots compete with each other....

And Mark, it has everything to do with cards PERIOD.

I always said that people are morons and stand for nothing. F F-Bay. Enjoy the effing

Re: O/T Crazy eBay Story

Disgusting pieces of trash. Hope they get their just deserts. For that matter, they could shut down that whole company.

D. Bergin 06-18-2020 02:53 PM

From the Wall Steet Journal:

"Later, after an unspecified EcommerceBytes post on May 31, Mr. Wenig texted: “Take her down.” At another point, he also used an expletive to refer to The Wall Street Journal’s coverage of the company. “The journal is next on the list,” he said in the text, according to the complaint. It couldn’t be determined if the Journal or any of its reporters was targeted."

Wenig by the way was the CEO of Ebay. The CEO who left Ebay before this fully broke, with a $57 million golden parachute.

..........but they want to charge me an 11.5% vig, to collect sales taxes for me.

Fascinating NY Times Story on Silicon Valley Culture

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/06/27/t...s&pgtype=Homep

This piece in today's NY Times goes BEYOND eBay and sheds a light on private security teams in Silicon Valley. Who has them? Uber. Tesla. Hewlett-Packard. The list goes on. When journalists report the truth they can pay a price. Sad but true nowadays.
It's well worth reading. The topless photo extortion episode does make you wonder why women keep falling for this trick. Don't worry, Leon. The photo itself isn't included in the article!

Peace and wear that mask!

The four Ebay employees are scheduled to plead guilty October 8.

Thanks, Dave--Now, NEW NY Times Story--WOW!

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/09/26/t...gtype=Homepage

First, thanks Dave for the info. Appreciate the heads up.

Second, this BRAND NEW NY Times story just broke this morning. It's long form so it will take some time to read but I assure ANYONE who reads it that they will be blown away. New info. More detail than I've ever read before. Sadistic. Poor Ina and Dave Steiner, the couple behind the newsletter. (NOTE: I was the editor of an influential newsletter for many years, reported the truth about a company and almost lost my job because of it).
Note that when the Wall Street hedge fund came into the picture everything changed at eBay. This guy Baugh and his references to the CIA. Amazing. The only word for Wymer is wicked. And he's preaching the Golden Rule?? When is the movie coming out, folks?? I'll buy a ticket no matter what the reviews are.
I am ashamed to have bought many, many times from this company. But who knew?
Kudos to the Steiners for reporting the truth They paid a price, for sure.
Peace and stay healthy.

Two Former eBayers Pled Guilty on 10/8

https://sports.yahoo.com/former-ebay...194053348.html

In case anyone is following this story like I am, on October 8 two former eBayers pled guilty in this shocking case of cyberstalking.
What truly disturbs me is that former eBay CEO Devin Wenig, who is STILL on the board of GM by the way, will, in all probability, walk away unscathed. Yet he was demanding that his underlings take action.
And in case anyone is wondering why I have been following this so closely, I was a trade press editor for many years. I incurred the wrath of a ceo because of what I wrote about what the company's salespeople were doing (it was true!). In anger he called my publisher, who proceeded to put me on probation for poor job performance because he wanted to be "friends" with the ceo. So I almost lost my job. Nice guy. Reporting the truth can have negative repercussions.
Peace and stay healthy.
