National may be in peril
who knows, but I wouldn't bet on it happening.

I prefer to just wait for actual news from the National people.

This will Be Two Years Lost to Lock Downs by State Restrictions In IL. |
I spoke with Megan at the National. She said they will NOT be moving the show to a different location. The only possibility would be changing the dates. It is just too early for anyone to know what will happen at this point.

Put it in Indianapolis, they seem to be able to handle the NCAA tournament

Illinois just expanded vaccine eligibility on Monday. I’d imagine rates will plummet as more Americans get vaccinated. They’re planning to make it available to every adult by May 1st. Probably not enough time for a June show, but hopefully enough time for late July.

I understand that PSA has graciously offered to grade every card at the show regardless of when or where it is held for $4,000,000,000,000.00.
And Washington does not consider sports cards infrastructure.:D |
National has been moved to PWCC's hermitically sealed underground vault.

Move it to Texas...I would advise Tarrant County (Fort Worth, Arlington) not Dallas County (Dallas)

Is it expensive? I've gotten rooms for almost nothing there. Mostly because they're getting paid through my time at the casino.
|
Expensive for conventions. Apparently very. At least historically. Maybe today they'd be more accomodating.

They could move it to Texas, Florida or Georgia. Many states are open (some have been for a while) and welcome the business. All three of those states have major convention venues and hotels to accommodate a convention of this size. I've been to various toy conventions in Arkansas, Kentucky, and Georgia this year and last year and they were not super spreaders like everyone would have you believe. Restrictions were in place and protocols followed carefully. Handled correctly it shouldn't be an issue even in Illinois. I have been on several convention committees over the years and unless they have a written contract in Illinois there is no reason it couldn't be moved. I've seen it and done it before. Takes a little work but not impossible.

Ugh.

The "Biggest" Issue about moving the NSCC at this point to an "Open" State is to remember we would have to get in line behind events already scheduled for those places which had been pushed back.
Hate to say this but the NSCC can not just snap their fingers, say we want to run a show and the waters open up for us. We have to wait out turn. Rich |
national
Move the show to Texas. Are the open states booked with events? Doubtful. Someone with alittle grit might be able to get this done.
Leon???? |
Let’s all Be Realistic this Year the National Can’t and Wont Be moved to a different location, it’s just to late. However in he future I hope we can chose states such as Texas, Florida, Tennessee, and Nevada... Just my Two Cents.
|
As far as moving it goes, the RNC was moved from North Carolina to Florida less than 3 months out from the convention date. We are 4 months out from the National, and the RNC is much bigger and there were fewer options available last year.

There are many things I am really looking forward to doing this summer; first and foremost getting out and seeing a handful of baseball games. Everyone will make their own decisions, but getting into a confined indoor space with a few thousand people looking over each others' shoulders ain't high on my list. But others obviously will make different calls based on their own views.

Dallas has had their show the last couple months, I'm sure most people have seen the social media and other posts regarding it - and yes I understand that show is still a fraction of what a National would be. I think a couple of the big hold ups for Dallas/Houston being a location has been (a) Dallas may not have the best convention facilities?, and (b) Texas is a long haul for both the East Coast and West Coast folks. Pretty sure (b) is the main issue. Both are easy flights in and out and plenty of hotel space, etc. Houston has great convention space, although the City has been preventing some big shows from happening so even here we aren't immune to that aspect. I fear we just may not quite "be there" yet for a show like this, but we do still have nearly 4 months. I'm optimistic they can hold it, but could be "different" than in the past. |
Problem is you may have 4 months but you can't wait until day 120 to make a decision.

A friend living in Wisconsin heard it was moving to Davenport. I would go if the show moved to Tijuana, would stay in San Diego and take the train to the border. Cheap beer and tacos, I’m tellin ya. 🌮🌮🌮🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺 |
move it
I can't believe the organizers aren't trying to move it to an open state like Florida, Georgia, or Texas. Not having it again this year is inexcusable.

I come here to get away from this shit, can both sides please cool it.

I worry that if it’s moved to a state like Texas or Florida with no restrictions at all that it could be a super spreader event. Sports cards are hotter right now than they may ever have been and the crowd could be huge. Covid is still here but too many people are acting like this is over already. My wife had to postpone a medical procedure because one of her coworkers tested positive last week. I had to postpone looking at a huge baseball card collection because the guy called me today and told me his wife has Covid. I feel like we’re spiking the ball at the one yard line. Crossing my fingers though that people continue to be vaccinated and the show can go on as scheduled in Chicago.
|
I certainly don't have any experience trying to organize events of this scale, but other than possibly inclement weather, are there any obstacles to hosting it outside? Soldier Field (for example) probably isn't too busy in late July.

If you follow Pritzker's policies, you know how he's going to play it with resuming indoor events.
Prove you're vaccinated or you don't get in. |
