Whenever I have the chance to post 1-2/3 cards, I do it. These are George C. Miller cards of Charlie Gehringer and Wally Berger. The Gehringer is considered Type 1. One of the ways to identify it as such is by the misspellings of 'Fox' and 'Klien' on the back checklist, while the Berger is a Type 2, with corrected spellings on its checklist. The Berger is also a redeemed card that was sent into the company for a prize and had its bottom chopped off and returned to the customer. Another style of redemption is seen that features multiple hole punches, configured in a diamond shape.

Today's George C. Miller lesson is over. It's time for recess followed by a snack.

Such a cool set!

I had to look up that reference. Pretty funny. I also didn’t know what an accomplished golfer Byrd was….two top five Masters finishes!

Bobby Jones was quoted saying Byrd was the best man with a driver he had ever scene.

Not sure of the year or team, but the photographer was J. C. Brewster of San Buenaventura, Cal. (and it looks like they won a very small trophy).

San Buenaventura, colloquially known as "Ventura", is a mere 60 miles or so from me. I end up going to court there pretty regularly.

But I digress...

I may tackle some more from this set. They sure are purty.

I guess that explains the V on their shirts.

Exhibitman 08-26-2021 03:33 PM

Maybe. And that trophy is definitely Caddyshack sized.

Thoughtless fun...Enameline College Doll card. Missing head. It is just a generic head anyways. The world does not need more attached generic heads.

my most recent Mathewson. I picked it up a while ago but never posted it. Never though I would own this baby as one of the big ones in the E98 set and my favorite Mathewson. But here it is.
