wow
Wow...great pickup Mike! Would love to see a pic with that guy up on your wall with the other spectacular framed pieces! I would almost be too scared to hang it thinking it might fall :)

Gonna be a bummer for your cleaning lady, though, as she'll be tasked with flipping that display over on your wall each week to change the orientation from Mantle being right side up to Maris being right side up and back again. :D

Very cool Mike. I’ve never seen that mailer before. Curious if you snagged the original envelope too?

Mantle rare magnet base Hartland Statue
6 Attachment(s)
I am an advanced Hartland statues collector. Not many people know that early in the production of the statues there was a very rare subset of magnetic statues issued. Only 11 of 18 were issued with magnets attached to the bottom of the players feet.
Of course Mickey was one. I just picked up a duplicate which is only the fourth one I have ever seen in all my 60 years of collecting Hartland's. In the late 50's when these first came out car dashboards were metal. Hartland issued these to be used that way. But in case you didn't want them on your dashboard they also included a metal base with a hole drilled in it so you could mount the base with a screw to other surfaces. From time to time you may find statues with magnets on the bottom but without the base. The bases are actually rarer than the statues. Much like the Berra Hartland, you will see tons of them but seldom does it still have the original mask that was issued with Yogi. Too easy to lose over the years. The same with the magnet base. Hartland also issued a smaller statue known as the Minor Leaguer on a card. See attached where you can see the mention of mounting them on the dashboard of your car. Thought you all would enjoy seeing and knowing about this rare Mantle piece. I also picked up a Musial and Ruth with magnets and bases and a Fox without the base. Sorry photos are so large and turned sideways. Hopefully someone can fix it for this old man who is not computer literate! |

Magnetic base for Hartland
I had heard of these, but had never seen one. Thanks for posting. I have been fascinated with the Hartland issues ever since my parents purchased my first Hartland (Stan Musial) for me in the early '60's.

Wavered on picking this up for a few weeks and finally decided to add this to my collection.

That's a beauty Mike. ^^^^^
These aren't necessarily new pickups (some are), but I gathered some cards the last year or so and finally sent them in to SGC. A number of these I picked up raw, here on the board. Excuse the lighting glare seen in a couple of these pics. The W.S. Batting Foes is very clean/no snow, unusual for that card. I picked up the '55 Bowman Mantle, in early 2020. It does have some wrinkles and gum stain on the back, plus the usual "chipping" thats everywhere on the '55s. I believe I paid around $150 for it, figuring it would be hit with the "authentic" designation, but I was surprised when it came back a 1.5. The '68 is obviously trimmed. It is such a brutal trim job, I can only imagine some kid took scissors to it. It adds to the charm, and I think I picked it up for like $50, so the price was right. https://i.imgur.com/f1xEXT3m.jpg https://i.imgur.com/rdo6q11l.jpg https://i.imgur.com/borKxNPl.jpg https://i.imgur.com/51SrSKfl.jpg https://i.imgur.com/KVJ76lBl.jpg https://i.imgur.com/kMHidkQl.jpg |

Huge mantle rarity

I recently acquired this 1 of 2 known 1960 Bazooka complete box with Mantle. It is by far the nicer of the 2. This box appears to never have had gum in it!! It is available, inquiry by PM is invited.
