Posted By: <b>Eric B</b><p>To you it looks like someone didn't overbid you by the proper increment. But from the outside it looks fine.<br /><br />Example:<br /><br />First bidder is at $1.00. You bid $10.00. The current bid shows at $1.25, the 25 cent increment over the first bidder - and what you will win it at if nobody else bids. Now the next bidder must bid at least $1.50, but actually bids $10.16 and wins at that price.<br /><br />Now if a snipe was set for $9.75 a second earlier, you would be high at $10.00 and I believe the $10.16 won't register as it doesn't have the necessary increment.

I know that sucks. <br /><br /><br />Leon, <br /><br />I learned that is one of the problems with setting your snipe time too close to the closing. I won an auction a couple of weeks ago with the same bid as 2 other people. My snipe went in at 11 seconds to go. Theirs were at 8 seconds and 6 seconds.

I don't even mind being topped at the last second. I do mind losing by a $%#$%^& increment based on a bidding "system" that no legitimate auction house would use. This is what happens when a system is designed by pez dispenser collectors.<br /><br />It seems obvious that ebay, sellers, and consigners would make more $ if every winning bid had to top the underbidder by 10%, and underbidders wouldn't feel cheated.<br /><br />Oh, well.

But, I remember getting in contact with the buyers after the auction and found out they were willing to much higher than I was. I could have driven the price up, but was not going to win.

Posted By: <b>Rob</b><p>with respect to ebay, i guess thats something to consider. what is the MAX i'm willing to spend. so if you bid $10, and lose by a penny, would you have spent $10.02 to win it? Then thats what you have to put in when you decide to place your top bid. So that if you get beat by a penny, you wouldn't have put in your extra two cents to win the lot.<br /><br /><img src="/images/happy.gif" height=14 width=14><br />Rob<br />
