Looking Ahead to the National in 2022

After reading many threads, stories, and articles, it seems the National this year was an overwhelming success. Large crowds, lots of sales, which is encouraging considering the state of the world. I'm wondering how we think the 2022 National will go. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a slight amount of regression in terms of the amount of people that end up going, just because I think the world will be a little more open by the time the Summer of 2022 comes around. I also think Chicago as a destination for a show is a little more appealing than Atlantic City. Additionally I am wondering what the state of the hobby will be, a year from now, in terms of prices.

I will say that I'm going to attend the National in 2022. Considering Atlantic City isn't too far from me, and I do enjoy a little bit of gambling every so often. What's the consensus from everyone around here on what the Show will look like in 2022?

Who knows where we will be a year from now in the new age of Covid. I like AC more as I like to stay at Caesars and play Texas Holdem next door in my down time. There will be less lookie lous but even more buyers than this year is my guess. Prices will continue to rise and the hobby will be strong as ever.

I'm impressed you can actually be thinking that far ahead.

Love it

I like Atlantic City as well. It’s a short drive. I like to gamble. I think the amenities are solid. I also think the market will be strong.

Very true, I want to stay cautiously optimistic, I do not think we experience a full on shut down, unless of course it gets as bad as it was at the height of Covid, which I believe won't happen again

Peter, only reason why is because I had to shuffle around some travel plans for next year, and then of course, the National came to mind! I've never been able to get to one, either, so it's giving me another thing to look forward to for next year. I certainly don't want to rush our lives away though!

My Hope for Everyone is to stay healthy and safe.

Would also like if the National Committee down the road would throw in a couple additional locations along with AC and Chicago.

Toby---I will go with you for the amenities!

Great year to take a skip year. Just too far.

ajjohnsonsoxfan 08-03-2021 09:55 PM

Already looking forward to AC!

My prediction is the hobby keeps exploding as more money pours in from new international collectors and US investors looking to diversify portfolios.

The show is even more crowded than 2021, as Covid is beaten with 80%+ immunization and herd immunity and no new variants present themselves.

I win the mega lottery and buy up all known Wagner T206

Leon 08-03-2021 10:15 PM

I don't care for AC as a venue but I am most likely going to go since I skipped this year...

.

I live an hour away from AC so I will be attending my first National for sure. I almost pulled the trigger on going to Chicago this year but opted not to attend.

I wouldn't be surprised if some of the hobby continued to go up, I can't see Mantle's or Ruth's losing value. Will be interesting to see the crowds

Leon, there are many places down the shore that I would rather go to than Atlantic City. Some of the quiet little beach towns are definitely more of my scene. All that being said, lets hope the show next year is a good one!

judsonhamlin 08-04-2021 03:02 PM

Looking forward to my local National. And the food in AC is great - White House Subs, Tony’s Baltimore Grill for *real* pizza, and Irish Pub for cheap eats and Knife & Fork or Chef Vola’s for higher end dinner.

Aquarian Sports Cards 08-04-2021 03:41 PM

+1 for White House Subs, they simply aren't beatable. Lots of good subs out there, only one White House.

AC

As of now, I plan on going. Chicago was my first and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I have never been to AC but do enjoy some light gambling.

This year was a learning experience for me. The VIP passes were nice because they gave the benefit of getting in the show early. Free autographs were pretty much a waste of time unless you want to spend all day in line. Although I did spend some money to get Bench, Ozzie Smith, Dale Murphy, and Andre Dawson to autograph rookie cards that came out of packs bought when I was a kid growing up in the '70s. Stay within walking distance of the show if at all possible. It was about a 10-minute walk for me this year, which was perfect.

As of now I am planning on attending.
Looking forward to my first nationals
Looking forward to meeting many of the members on the forum

Will the wife want to accompany me to AC? Oy veh...no bueno...

Jewish-collector 08-05-2021 11:52 AM

The only reason to go is if Leon has the Net54 dinner. :D:D:D

packs 08-05-2021 11:58 AM

I'll be in AC next year. Hoping grading goes back to normal by then and I can get some onsite stuff done.

Donscards 08-05-2021 03:49 PM

I look forward to Atlantic City National---For one, I can drive 8 hours, but still better and I can take all my stuff with me.--Lessor costs for me. Which gives me extra money to make some bets on baseball games which we cant do in Maine. The last AC show was my best ever until the Chicago National last week. I have a year now to restock so who wants to sell me some vintage cards.---Good Luck to all and see most of you next year. Don

Agreed especially to make up for the earlier server issue

jiw98 08-05-2021 05:32 PM

I can say with 100% certainty, that I probably won't go to the National next year.

Snapolit1 08-05-2021 07:45 PM

I’m there. A drive for me. And I’ve spend a lot of time in AC and knew a lot of great spots.

egri 08-06-2021 03:04 PM

I keep telling myself I’ll go, and I’ve never been. It’s a six hour drive for me, and unless the National comes to DC/Baltimore, that’s probably the closest it’ll get to me. At this point, I am a definite maybe.

jayshum 08-06-2021 03:07 PM

I plan on going since it's about a 90 minute ride for me. The only other National I have been to was the last time it was in AC.

GrayGhost 08-06-2021 03:13 PM

I have been to 4 nationals, but none since 1995 due to finances mainly. I'm really hoping I will be there. even if its train or bus

jefferyepayne 08-06-2021 08:17 PM

Been to everyone National since 2011 and hope to never miss one again until I'm no longer on this earth.

See you in AC!

jeff

Perhaps as it closer we can plan some type of Net54Baseball Forum get together over drinks or something

Fballguy 08-07-2021 07:50 AM

If all goes well, next year will be my first. I spend a week in NYC every summer, which is why I can never make it to Chicago. AC will fit perfectly in my schedule. Plus a little craps. What's not to like?

Snapolit1 08-07-2021 08:14 AM

Here’s hoping this covid crap is basically gone by next summer. I guess scientists say it will never go away completely, but maybe next summer things will be much better a year from now.

Aquarian Sports Cards 08-07-2021 08:24 AM

Hit the lottery, 2nd to last pick, so I'll have my own booth next year!

I believe the consensus is that this thing will become endemic like the flu? Not to derail the thread, but at this point I'm vaccinated, along with my parents and loved ones, with the Moderna vaccine which seems to be the most effective, so I have little to no care about COVID anymore. But I agree hopefully this will mostly be over by next summer.
