World Series predictions - Phillies vs Astros

Any predictions for the World Series? I'm a lifelong Phillies fan, but I don't see them beating Houston. I'm thinking Houston in 6, but could be even less. However, I'd be very happy to be wrong. :)

BobbyStrawberry 10-24-2022 01:47 PM

I think Astros in 6 is right on.

Peter_Spaeth 10-24-2022 02:24 PM

Phillies in 6 lol.

Casey2296 10-24-2022 02:53 PM

Would like to see the Phillies win, love the working class attitude, but I think their pitching isn't as deep and the Astros defense is top notch.

Hopefully, Dusty can snatch defeat from the jaws of victory like he's always done.

butchie_t 10-24-2022 03:05 PM

Meh, I’m rooting for the umpires. I don’t care for either team.

[emoji441] drop. No mercy for the tough luck HOF coach.

My own preference is Phillies. But I have a 9 yo Houston fan in my home, so if Houston wins I must be happy. However, I was rooting for San Diego. 1998 seems like so long ago.

I have no interest in either team I am just hoping for the series to go 7 and have some close games and memorable moments.

My Logic (or lack there of ) says Houston in 5

As a life long Giants fan I remember the crowd shaking our collective heads when Dusty would lose yet another game in the late innings by leaving a pitcher in too long.

Agreed, but no lol. I like Philly's chances. Reminds me a bit of 2019.

Steve D 10-24-2022 08:05 PM

This is the old "Irresistible Force" meets "Immovable Object" scenario.

The Phillies are the Irresistible Force, being the underdog in every series; the Astros are the Immovable Object, having swept each of their series.

In fact, each of the five NL playoff series was won by the underdog; the Padres beat the Mets and Dodgers, and the Phillies beat the Cardinals, Braves and Padres. But now they face the Astros, who are undefeated in the postseason.

So, who wins?

Steve

TUM301 10-25-2022 04:50 AM

Like to see the Phillies win but thinking they need to get 1 of the 1`st 2 games. Secondly, please please please put the ball in play. This endless stream of strikeouts is getting tough to watch, even for hardcore baseball fans.

clydepepper 10-25-2022 06:58 AM

I want it to go 7 and include more than one ghost-runnerless extra-inning game and at least three weather postponements...pushing the final way too close to Thanksgiving. That'll learn em.

...that's what I want...

what I predict is trashtros in 6.

phillyfan24 10-25-2022 09:28 AM

Lifelong Phillies fan. Just don't see them winning. Astros in 5 I think.

ALR-bishop 10-26-2022 11:26 AM

Blackless Series ?

Such a long layoff with the short championship series....I'm having baseball withdrawals!

I've been pondering this very point, wondering which team it will impact more.

The Phillies are a streaky team. Cooling off for a few days probably isn't the best scenario.

The Astros have lost two of the last three World Series. Having a few days to think about that probably isn't the best scenario.

That is pretty much like most of the country.

Sometime in games 4-7 someone hits three homers in a game and becomes the first "Mr November"

Good question - I wouldn't be surprised if PHI is impacted more by it

During Game 4 of the 2001 World Series, shortly after midnight, the calendar page turned to November 1st. There had never previously been November baseball; however, the events of 9/11 altered the schedule that year.

In (what I believe was) the first November MLB at-bat in history, Derek Jeter hit a game-winning home run. The Mr. November moniker was quickly bestowed upon Jeter and persists to this day.

mrreality68 10-28-2022 04:43 AM

will be more interested in the Ratings than the score or the winner.

I do not see the hype as much in past years which is odd we have stars on both teams, we have the "cheating astros", and we have storylines

And talking with people around the country I know does not seem to have the feel for it

ALSO the long wait for game 1 has not helped

commishbob 10-28-2022 07:21 AM

As an Orioles fan living in Houston, I've been happy to see my guy Trey Mancini in the hunt for a ring. For that reason alone I've watched more of this postseason than I did over the last decade combined. Mancini hasn't had a lot of success since getting here but if they win it won't matter.

I got to meet Dusty Baker at a luncheon last year. He was a prince. He deserves a ring as well.

The Astros are just so solid, top to bottom. It's hard to see them losing if they continue to pitch like they have and sprinkle in enough clutch hits. But then again it's baseball. Who figured the Phillies would get this far? If they can split the first two here they may just pull it off.

BobbyStrawberry 10-28-2022 03:29 PM

Bold prediction for Game 1: John Smoltz will talk and talk and talk, without saying much of anything.

Shoeless Moe 10-28-2022 09:41 PM

What a game so far!

Casey2296 10-29-2022 12:52 AM

Great game. Verlander 0-6 in World Series starts, now holds the Major League record for highest career ERA in WS history at 6.07.

jingram058 10-29-2022 02:23 AM

Down 5-0 in game 1, the Phillies come all the way back to win 6-5. Biggest comeback in a WS game 1 ever. Wow. The Whiz Kids were swept in 1950 in 4 games...

very surprising and now Verlander is 0-6 in the World Series

Phillies in 6

Amazing comeback win by the Phillies, and I'll take Smoltz announcing the game over ARod any day.

BobbyStrawberry 10-29-2022 10:25 AM

Incredible game! I did not expect the game-saving defensive play of the night from Castellanos

philliesfan 10-29-2022 10:51 AM

My never say die Phillies!

Castellanos made almost the same play in the 9th inning of game 1 against the Braves. He's definitely not known for his fielding, but hopefully he can keep it going for another week.

Or Ron Darling. If I heard one more of his incessant ramblings followed by "don't you agree Frenchy" I swear someone was going to get hurt.

BobbyStrawberry 10-29-2022 11:18 AM

I'm also not a fan of Arod in the booth, but I liked the ALCS crew. Darling is great imo

Darn, how did I miss an oddity like that ?

Houston and winning via an Albert Pujols bat

frankbmd 11-01-2022 09:22 AM

I actually predicted that last night’s game would end in a tie.:D

bass37 11-01-2022 10:11 AM

I think it will go 7 with the Astros winning.

Yes it was and Bryce Harper is looking like a Beast

Could be a short series if Houston is not careful

Am I the only guy that's less than impressed with a "combined" no hitter?

Nope, it just is not the same for me either. Combined no hitters are nothing to celebrate. It was just a shutout to me.

I hate them!

They point more to the ineptitude of the opposing hitters, as opposed to the dominance of the pitcher(s).

Steve

Shoeless Moe 11-02-2022 10:32 PM

Not as good as a true No-No, but still pretty impressive.

Shoeless Moe 11-03-2022 08:16 AM

Also, a rare GREAT move by Dusty pulling Javier out of there.

He has to plan for a game 7 Sunday and why burn out Javier.

He's gotta start him on short rest over McCullers (who blows).

So leaving him in for a shot at a no hitter over the greater good would have been a terrible decision.

Dusty just may get one.
