2022 Priorities

As we wrap up 2021, I’m starting to think about 2022 and what’s on the top of my priority list. Wondering what you’ll all be going after in the new year. My top priorities:

N28 King Kelly
A T206 team set (leaning towards the Browns)
33 Goudey Hack Wilson
5 high numbers from 52 Topps
Complete the 55 Topps set (already have the big boys, but no commons or minor stars)

Should be a fun ride. Happy hunting, everyone.

Johnny630 12-17-2021 11:05 AM

Selling 80% of my Collection.

mrreality68 12-17-2021 11:05 AM

My 2022 priorities are slightly different in nature

Priority 1 is to pay down debt and regroup the finances from over buying in 2021.
There were so many cards that came up that I do not normally get to see or purchase that I was afraid if I did not pick them up I may not get a chance at them.
Priority 2 is continue my run on Joe Jackson playing day cards, postcards, etc
Priority 3 is slow strategic growth of early playing day Ruth Cards focusing on the early 1920’s (approx 1920 thru 1926)
Priority 4 control my overall addiction to cards and auctions

Casey2296 12-17-2021 11:06 AM

I was curious so I looked back on what I posted for the 2021 thread back in February. This was my list back then and what I was able to cross off. The two on top are just a dream so I can't count those.

E224 Walter Johnson
M131 Cobb
14CJ Cobb
51B Mantle
21 Exhibits Ruth
33G Ruth #181
PC796 Cobb/Wagner
PC796 Speaker
PC796 Johnson

This years goal is to complete my E98 Master Set and E94 set, complete my 14CJ list and pick up some other e-cards on my want list.

I'm with you on #4, Jeff!

Exhibitman 12-17-2021 11:15 AM

Just play it as it lays. But an H566 Royal Glue Sullivan would be a nice thing to find.

Natswin2019 12-17-2021 11:19 AM

I completed most of my goals from last year which im pretty happy about. For this year I'd love to get to

1. Finish my 55 topps set ( down to 34 left, Ill probably get them all minus the Clemente rookie unless my finances change)
2. Finish my 50 Bowman set ( down to about a quarter of the set left)
3. Grab all the Virginia based t206 Southern leaguers
4. Pick up more T-210 Richmond Colts
5. Get more prewar RVA based items
6. Pick up a Tinker,Evers, Chance T202

In additon to these ill also just keep adding cards I think are cool and neat

I probably spent more in 2021 than I had in every other year of my collecting history combined. And while I don’t regret it, I certainly can’t do that again. Some of the most expensive things I bought weren’t even on my radar coming into the year. I’m looking directly at you on that one, Jeff.

Bobbycee 12-17-2021 11:37 AM

Jumping on a Cobb Bat Off in a PSA 4, if one ever comes up at a reasonable price.

Well said, Jeff. This is me in a nutshell. I'll be looking to finish my T3 set as I can, but otherwise heading into a 2022 collecting hibernation. At least that's what I plan to do, addiction notwithstanding ;)

EDIT: Oh, and waiting for SGC to open grading at $10 or less per card. I acknowledge that I may be waiting forever :(

joejo20 12-17-2021 12:01 PM

I collect Lou Criger cards and my 2022 Collecting goals/wantlist:

PC743 Bregstone PC

Rose Co. PC

M101-1

S74 Silk

T205 Rare Backs

This should be tough but will be fun searching. Joe

I like nice pricey things just as much as the next collector, but one thing I learned this year is that I've made a few $100 and less purchases of unique interesting things that I enjoyed more over time than $15,000 + high end purchases. Find cool stuff that piques your interest as a fan, use it to learn more about some obscure baseball corner of the universe . . . . .don't get any better than that.

Luke 12-17-2021 12:55 PM

I always try to stay flexible enough to take the opportunities that present themselves rather than have a set plan. But there are a few things I hope will happen in 2022:

1. Add 2 or 3 T206 HOFers with rare backs
2. Add 5 or so HOFers to my Worch Cigar stash
3. Add 15 or so cards to my 1936 WWG set
4. Find another 1924 Diaz HOFer
5. Find a T207 Napoleon Speaker

rjackson44 12-17-2021 01:03 PM

Sell my rolls

So I can buy high end zion cards ooops sorry

Yoda 12-17-2021 01:04 PM

A Covidless world.

bnorth 12-17-2021 05:14 PM

Pretty much same as last year. I want to add to my T210 Ft Worth team set and add a few more new to me Wade Boggs bat models.

John1941 12-17-2021 05:31 PM

Most of my goals are post-war, but here they are anyway.

1. Reach 350 different 1959 Topps cards, and add five superstars.
2. Get eight Zeenuts.
3. Finally get some Japanese cards.
4. Reach 50 different for 1952 Bowman.

That's it, for now. Not overly ambitious.

Solid advice, Steve, I'm going to try this

taul166 12-17-2021 07:02 PM

Figure out what my priorities are.....all of these partial sets I have and am building are driving me crazy.

Jewish-collector 12-17-2021 07:46 PM

Just to enjoy the hobby, because sometimes you just gotta say WTF :D

Vintagecatcher 12-17-2021 07:54 PM

2022 goals

This past year I picked up more catcher B18s, T210s, E254 & E270 Colgan Chips, catcher S74s, catcher position pins, and catcher rppcs, and would like to do the same in 2022.

Patrick

x2drich2000 12-17-2021 07:55 PM

I couldn't find my goals for 2021, but they likely were pretty close to my goals in 2020 and will be the same in 2022 (except #1).

1) Pick up an E93 Cobb - Yes, finally, completed the E93 set
2) Add another E92 red croft, menagerie, or prizefighter - Didn't even see one up for sale
3) Add 2 more cards to the E92 Nadja Set - Added 1, Kleinow. Only other card I saw offered that I needed was a Bridwell but lost out on it and refuse to buy the one on Ebay.
4) Add another back to my E/T Young backrun (preferable a T216) - Added E92 Dockman
5) Finish my Davis backrun (need cocoa and maybe black candy) - nope, didn't see either offered for sale
6) Add another Wagner, Cobb, and maybe Ruth - Partial - Added M110 Cobb, but no Ruth or Wagner. Also added a few other key cards (E95 Mathewson, E92 Croft Candy Mathewson, Lincoln Pub Plank)

For 2022 I would also like to add another T222 Short-print, finish my W554 set, and pick another significant HOFer for the PC796/novelty cutlery set.

Rich Falvo 12-17-2021 08:24 PM

Same general goal for me - add to my Providence T206 team set. Would love to get the final Cycle that I need (Lavender). My spending for the year might depend on what's available in the next two installments of the David Hall T206 Collection auctions in the spring

Not much traction on that set lately, so I may look for another set to work on.

charlietheexterminator 12-17-2021 08:39 PM

Great goals by all. For 2022 I want to continue to consolidate my collection and add more Ruth’s, Cobb’s and a few t206 rare backs.

Jstottlemire1 12-17-2021 08:46 PM

I want to slowly but surely add Ruth’s. Particularly 1922 e121 series of 120 with bird, then his Goudey 149 and 181. Dreaming big.

What Crawfords are you looking for?

DeanH3 12-17-2021 11:52 PM

I'd like to add,

Ruth card/Exhibit
'28 Gehrig Exhibit
Any Matty dark cap backs I don't have.
E220 or '21 Exhibit Hornsby
Sprinkle in a few HOF'ers for the HOF set.

Snapolit1 12-18-2021 06:05 AM

Looks like everyone wants to buy a Babe Ruth next year. I'm stunned.

fisherboy7 12-18-2021 06:56 AM

Would love to add a e107 HOFer that I don’t have this year. At this point I’m happy adding one per year to my collection!

Very stunned indeed :D

And that is part of the reason why all Ruth Cards (even the previously under appreciated ones) are all jumping in prices. And as some are getting to high people are moving to other cards that are still affordable thus driving them up to.

frohme 12-18-2021 10:57 AM

Same goals since 2016

Pick up any T207's I need for front/back master-master ... excluding RedCross, Lewis no-emblem, and blank/brown-print varietals. So 703-709 or so cards:
  • Recruit/240 - 155
  • Recruit/606 - 155
  • Napoleon - 144 currently known, 150 likely, 155 maybe?
  • Recruit/Anon 3 - 49
  • Broadleaf - 50
  • Cycle - 50
  • Anon/3 - 50
  • Anon/25 - 50

Of the 703 known/catalogued, I'm at 655. For 2021, I picked up 3 cards ... but then 8 months of the year were spent prepping, selling, renovating and moving in (which is still a work-in-progress), so I shouldn't complain.

Fingers crossed for '22.

Unicorn for 2022

T201 Lord/Dougherty factory 30. The last card I need to finish my master set.

So true. Oh the struggle 🤷🏻*♂️🤭

Seven 12-18-2021 11:08 AM

Figure out where I'm going to go next with my Mantle run. Debating on selling some cards as well. Probably going to try and get the 51 Bowman before it becomes completely unobtainable like the 52 Topps is. Will probably bide my time for a bit though, I am interested to see where things go, collecting wise, with this Lockout occurring. Wouldn't be shocked to see a bit of a dip if some games are missed out on.

I am currently debating though. Maybe I shift focus to a 53 Topps and use the remaining money to buy a nice Gehrig, I've always wanted a Lou for my collection.

Hoping I hit this powerball, then maybe I could just buy everything I want, now!

pawpawdiv9 12-18-2021 12:04 PM

couldnt find my list for the last few yrs...
pretty sure it included 33 ruth goudey, or t206 cobb/postcard

looking ahead 2022:
1. Main goal is to add to my 1916-20 UNC big heads
2. Well the 33 ruth's are outpriced--so thats a No. Woulda loved a red!
3. Sold my red cobb (for personal reasons) as they are plentiful, not looking to re-coup.
4. Keeping my budget at a low (as noted above) but could sell others to fund purchases.

riggs336 12-18-2021 12:13 PM

I made moderate progress on last year's list:

T207 Master (204/208)...now 206/208
1922 Exhibits (69/74)...now 73/74
1932 U.S. Caramel (28/31)...no change
R306 Butter Cream (18/30)...now 28/30
1939 Play Ball Sample Back (75/115)...now 78/115

I guess I'll work on these another year.

steve B 12-18-2021 12:40 PM

T clear out sone duplicates, and maybe finally finish the 76 Topps set. I've needed something like 9 cards since the mid 80's.....

Dead-Ball-Hitter 12-18-2021 01:41 PM

I'd like to obtain the following by year end 2022:

-Any Billy Hamilton card from playing days, graded or not
-Fan Craze Hugh Duffy, graded or not
-Half dozen T206's graded 2.5 to 4.5
-Any N300 Mayo's Cut cards (except those altered by a certain national seller)

LEHR 12-18-2021 03:03 PM

After at least 10 years of making these year end priority/goal lists I don’t even bother anymore. My attitude towards collecting has always been a bit whimsical and usually when the first auction catalog of the new year rolls in I find myself chasing things I hadn’t even thought about when I made my last priority list.
To me, that’s the fun of collecting. If it gets to focused I tend to lose interest all together. These days my only real focus is quality over quantity.

iwantitiwinit 12-18-2021 05:13 PM

Buy as many T206 portraits of HOFamers or near HOFamers as is possible focusing mostly on EPDG, Sovereigns and Hindus.

I've always wanted that card and have never picked one up. GOod luck with your search.

Continue to add to my Ruth/Cobb collection, Yankee binders...and hoping to someday obtain the last t216 Kotton Dots Miller I need to complete my run.

Kidnapped18 12-19-2021 12:14 AM

1. Add at least twelve more 14 CJs (one each month) including at least 1 or 2 HOFers and upgrade my 106 Joe Birmingham
2. Picking up a couple T206 Southern Leaguers including Greminger and Hickman

irv 12-19-2021 06:45 AM

With 14 cards remaining, all 52 Topps high numbers, I will continue to pursue those in hopes of at least adding a couple/few throughout the year. Some upgrades here and there as well is also quite possible.

Outside of those, I will continue to look and watch for other cards that also pique my interest.

Down to 14, that is awesome. Best of luck getting a few this year. I know one we are both looking for because my dumb butt traded mine away.:)

Wanaselja 12-19-2021 08:43 AM

E90-1 Speaker (probably a stretch for me)
E94 Speaker
E94 Lajoie
14-CJ Speaker
Upgrade some of my T206’s to off backs (or better looking examples).

egri 12-19-2021 12:33 PM

My goal at the beginning of the year was to add five signed 1953 Topps. I only added two, with two more that got away, so if I can pick up three more this year I'll get up to 264 and call it a win.
