Posted By: D. Bergin
Congratulations on getting another edition out Adam. Your book is the best resource anybody can have regarding boxing cards. I like that you're starting to expand into the issues coming out of other countries, I know how complicated that can start to get. I'm sure I'll be picking up a copy shortly.

For anybody who has never picked up Adam's book he does the pricing as it should be done. Based on actual recorded transactions and leaves the market to decide what cards are worth what. Honestly, I don't think the pricing is anywhere near one of the most important aspects of the book. The research, checklists and history that Adam puts into each set trumps all IMO. The Exhibit section is easily worth the price of the book alone.

By the way, any coverage of the mysterious Red Cross N266 blank backed woodgrain border cards in your new edition?.......HaHa!

Posted By: D. Bergin
Interesting Adam. So even more of these surfaced since the last I talked to you? It's funny, I swear I remember a few of them being offered on Ebay in the last year or so also, although they may have been the same ones from the Heritage Auction.

I wonder if Gary Schultz picked up any of them.

Posted By: Brent Butcher
I agree with Adam somewhat. I have 5 or 6 of these psuedo N266's and do believe they are period(1890's) BUT I also believe they were cut from an advertisement of some sort. Hopefully one day the complete advertisement will show up! I have seen a few Lorillard advertisement sheets for actresses on Ebay from time to time so it is possible...

Posted By: Jim Heffron
Received the price guide about a week ago. Just a quick note to show appreciation to you for all you have done for the hobby with your books. I've sailed for many years in boxing collecting with only the stars as a guide. Then your book, what a terrific compass.

Jim.Heffron@cox.net

Posted By: Jay
I also have some of the Lorillard variations and they are definitely period. I believe that they were either early stage proofs of cards that were never made or cut from an ad piece. They do not appear to be thin paper like one might expect from an ad sheet so I think the proof idea is a better possibility. Why did they come out suddenly--probably they came from one source. When that group is exhausted there will probably be no additional ones. That has been my experience over the years with similar rare material. Finds of rare M101-4/5 backs are prime examples. They were rarely ever seen, appear in a group, and then (other than resales of the original find) are not seen again.
