Awesome cards, Matthew. It takes patience to find great looking, centered cards like that.

Can't seem to upload the Jackie cards I have, but here's the pride and joy of my collection. Not worth as much as the 48 Leaf and 49 Bowman I have, but it's pretty amazing. There's a random signature on the other side of the ball, but it presents as a single signed.

Beauties! Great additions, Matthew, Matt, and Jeremy.

I almost tried to buy something just to have something else to add. Haha! Fun thread.

Nice Adam. Don't think I've seen this one before. Is it postcard size?

I like the exhibit card . The image is better then his lazy eye rookie. Plus some were made in 1948 .

Exhibitman 03-26-2021 05:28 PM

I have never seen definitive proof of that, Dustin. 1949 cards had "An Exhibit Card" on the bottom:

https://photos.imageevent.com/exhibi...age%20Comp.jpg

See the Paige on the left. I do not recall seeing a Robinson with that notation. He was definitely in the 1950 and 1951 runs; here are two salesman samples with checklists from those years:

https://photos.imageevent.com/exhibi...ist%20card.jpg

(this one is a 1950 because it has 1949 ROY Don Newcombe and the 1949 pennant winning teams; the 1948 pennant winners were the Indians and Braves, so the 1949 checklist would have had them listed)

https://photos.imageevent.com/exhibi...ard%20edit.jpg

This one is a 1951 because it has the Phillies on it (1950 pennant winners).

I don't have ESCO issued checklists for 1948 or 1949, so if you have something, please share it.

Thanks Adam, I read online that the measurements for the MADE IN USA is 5/8s then is was from 48. Is this bad information? And I think it had to be all caps in the spelling? Here is a pic of mine which does measure 5/8 .

Exhibitman 03-27-2021 12:27 PM

Short answer: I don't know. Long answer: there are deviations from the standard with ESCO products. They just weren't that careful. Also the difference between 5/8 and 7/16 (1950) is really small. Absent an uncut sheet or a checklist from a sample I am not a fan of making absolute pronouncements that might dramatically boost the value of a card. it seems weird that they would issue a 48 but no 49.

TUM301 03-27-2021 01:19 PM

Looking to add a couple Jackie items to the collection. This is my 1`st ticket ever, thought it was cool piece especially coming from his opening home stand in "47" (4/27/47). Still on the lookout for an Old Gold or 50`s postcard, always liked that shot of him. Also, thanks Shoeless for making this available Sir.

Hey , I believe you I got the info from this site http://keymancollectibles.com/baseba...eballcards.htm . If you look at 1948 it’s say MADE IN USA 5/8. Is any of this info correct ?

Dustin welcome to the world of Exhibits!! As Adam knows it is basically impossible to accurately date most Exhibit cards. Even with checklist cards.

For example the 1951 Checklist card shown above with the 1950 Phillies on it which should date it to 1951 has Jackie Robinson on it which we know only comes in the MADE IN U.S.A. ( all CAPS) 5/8", However on the same checklist is for example Jim Konstanty who only has one Exhibit card and his has Made in U.S.A. ( Not all CAPS). There are other different examples as well.

The 1955 Postcard back set has all kinds of different sizes and wording of the Made, Printed etc. notations on cards in the set

To complicate matters a lot of the cards, Jackie Robinson included come in a sepia tint and a B&W tint. See below. So it is possible the sepia is from 1948 and the B&W is from 1951. But I can not verify ALL the guys listed on the 51 checklist exist in B&W.

Then it seems possible there were different printings with the team cards being changed late in the year after the World Series and again repeated later the following year with different player cards after some were dropped and others added.

Crystal clear right??

Found a nice 55T today. Looking to add a 52 and 53 Topps eventually. Would also like to find a single signature Jackie baseball.

The lack of a 1951 Jackie is so odd-did the Batter Up game he endorsed have him on an exclusive deal that year?

He is on the 1951 Topps Teams cards, so he sort of has a 1951 card.

Here's a whale of a trivia question (something I learned for the first time today)...

Who was the manager of the Brooklyn Dodgers on the first day of the 1947 season, the day the color barrier was forever broken?

(Perhaps this is an already well-known factoid?? The obvious guess is wrong. No cheating!!)

I'm just about outta stuff. As for what this is, heck if I know. I've had it for years. Looks like the JJK Copyart postcard but blank backed.

I just won what looks identical to these 2 post cards, or maybe just Adam's as the one I won is also blank.

I was hesitant to purchase it based on the white back thinking it was maybe fake or a reprint but decided to go ahead just in case it was legit.
Crease free according to the ad, but it does have some corner bumps. I paid $225 U.S. but have no idea if that is high or not?
Thoughts?

Exhibitman 04-29-2021 09:18 PM

Can't say, Dale. They have been really hard to find so there are no good price points. I would think that $225 for a JR of the era is a good deal.

Thanks, Adam. I was kind of thinking the same.

I'm glad, although it was after the fact, that I seen yours and Deans to confirm it was more than likely a legit copy.
That white back, after seeing/reading most exhibits, etc, were cream colored concerned me.

I haven't been around much lately, but I stumbled across this tonight and this was just too good to let go.

Lo and behold, the 1st (and hopefully LAST) JACKIE ROBINSON "one of one" rookie patch card.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/28426740352...ggQtr&LH_BIN=1

I don't quite know which market this guy is trying to appeal to.....?
A quick glance at the seller's "other items", and I saw about 15-20 of these hand drawn cards. A majority of them are of current/semi-current pro basketball players.

One thing is for sure, if you get THIS Jackie Robinson, it is for sure a 1/1.

:D
