Not doing any more Nationals. I will have my National within 200 miles of home which means St. Louis to the east, Topeka and Kansas City to the West, St. Joseph to the north, and Springdale, Arkansas to the south. A concession to age and the rigors of a 6 day show and the travel involved.

Depends on if you want to take the train in from the city every day or just walk/shuttle. If you are ONLY there for the show...any of the second tier type places should do...i.e., Courtyard, Aloft, Residence Inn, etc.....and if you have points or status with any of the major chains...this is a great time/value to use them IMO.

I've always enjoyed staying in downtown Chicago. I like catching either the Cubs or White Sox (or both, if I'm lucky), eating good meals, and getting morning donuts at Do-Rite Donuts [1].

If I'm up for it, I would just take the train out, but more often than not, I would hop in a Lyft to the show. Well worth it to make an entire vacation out of it and not just a card show.

But I also see the appeal of staying across the street from the show, particularly if you participate in trade nights, etc.

Cheers,
Steve

[1] It appears that my preferred location has closed since last National but there is still a location in downtown, and they've added Chicken to the name... Staying open longer than just "until we sell out of donuts".

I'd like to attend my first National next year, hopefully with my son.
Could be a really fun father/son trip to Chicago from Phx.

I just checked. Some of the better hotels are already booked.

I just booked the Loews. Don't have to pay until we get there and I can cancel up until the day before.

Last week I booked Wednesday and Thursday nights at the Hyatt. I will drive up from Indy on Wednesday morning - that should give me Wednesday's sneak peak, all day Thursday and as much of Friday as I want. That's probably enough for me. I can always get a Friday night room somewhere if I want.

I like parking in the Hyatt garage that's connected to the convention center - its a long walk but I enjoy being able to go back to my room or back to my car when I want to.

My reservation has a 24 hour cancellation policy - which I like.

mrreality68 08-02-2022 05:24 PM

Yes. I am looking to stay near the convention center for ease of going to the convention and then if i want to go to downtown there are plenty of transportation options.
so I am looking on which hotel is recommended in walking distance

Thanks Michael.
You are right places are booking fast. I also booked the Lowes and the cancel up to the day before is good and gives me options to look around if I want.
Decided to stay Wed thru Sat.

Will there be a Net54 dinner?

Based on most folks definition of a dinner, has there ever been a Net54 dinner?

I was at the last National held in Chicago two years back. I stayed right by the convention.
This year I booked a hotel 20 minutes away for much cheaper. I don't mind doing a short drive if I could save some money on the hotel which could go to cards.

Whenever I drove to the National in Chicago, I would always stay at one of the hotels in Schiller Park, IL and then park each day at the Rosemont CTA station, which was a short walk away from the convention center.

As opposed to a drunken brawl.

To answer another question, YESSSSSSS....there will be a 2023 Net54baseball "Dinner" this year....

It's all relative. IF cheap pizza, a few horse duvers, and an open bar is a dinner then you are all set!

I haven’t been to a show since 2019 so very much looking forward to this.

CraigT 05-16-2023 08:32 AM

Wife and I are attending. We are new collectors and looking forward to it. Were both into vintage.

LEHR 05-16-2023 08:45 AM

Everything finally worked out and I'm actually going this year. In 40 years of collecting this will only be my third National and first since 2004.
I can't wait.

Hey Leon, do we need to sign up in the above thread so you can get an expected attendance?
