Richard, I'm going to answer all your questions in different messages, as to how to organize them, look, I collect all the memorabilia of Cuban baseball that covers a lot in all its themes, as for the cards, I have most of them in their original albums complete in some cases, those that were never printed albums, those I have in folders with their plastic protectors, as for the rarest, I have my opinions, they are the rarest and most valued and the rarest and least valued, for example: some cards "Gener Cigars, Romeo y Julieta, Helados Hatuey, etc" are rarer than "Cabañas or Punch" but it all depends on the demand and interest of the collectors according to whether they collect all the cards or those of Major League Baseball players, Negro Leagues, Hall of Fame players, etc. All this is in terms of Cuban baseball cards, I will follow the explanation, as soon as you read this message you let me know. Greetings Richard.

Hi Jason, I saw the newspaper clippings and my desire is to help as much as I can, but I need you to give me more information on what you have in that album, I'll explain the following to you, in the 40s and 50s they played in Cuba between 300 and 400 teams distributed in different leagues: 4 professionals, several Amateur leagues and several Semi - Pro leagues, in the latter, the Popular League, the Sugar League, the Pedro Betancourt League, the O. Divino League, and some more, some teams played alone one or two years, try to look to see if the year and other data appear, that Independent League may have been in the Semi-Pro, but of all these leagues there is little information but when you give me more data, I will continue looking, greetings

Richard, a few years ago a man over 70 years old came to my house and he asked me about a Bohemian magazine, if I could have it, so I told him to come in 2 or 3 days to look for it, I found it and days later when he came back I showed it to him, the man was moved and told me, look at that boy with the bat is me, he told me that this photo was on January 6, 1949, the "Day of the Magi" and among the Gifts were balls, gloves and bats, and several of the boys went to the Santos Suarez Park, to play and the photographer from La Bohemia photographed them and told them that the photo would come out 3 days later, on January 9, 1949, and So it was, the father bought the magazine and everyone saw it, but the father kept it days later and they never saw it again, eventually they threw it away, and he had not seen that magazine again until the moment I showed it to him. , the man kept coming back to take a picture of him, I scanned it, but he never came back, I'll tell them that Santos Park Suarez is the park in my neighborhood of the same name, I also played ball in that place and almost every day I pass by, sometimes walking in my car, it is 5 blocks from my house (500 meters). from the Almanaque Deportivo Magazine, when you see them let me know.

At the beginning of 2020, a friend of mine who is a member of net54, Kit, was at my house and gave me the sad news of the death of Dihigo Jr.

Roland 49 04-24-2021 10:47 AM

3 days ago I received an email and they asked me how many Coca Cola cards were in the collection, I then asked, because there are several things of that brand in Cuban baseball, so he sent me a Havana card, then I posted one on the thread. card and yesterday a group of several, with the intention that some of you will answer the question, but I see that none have answered, I think it is because they do not know or because nobody is interested in this topic, many years ago I got the family of a seller of the brand a lot with these cards in their original envelopes sealed with the cards inside and previously a card from a sample book, which on the back, by mechanical means, the brand of the factory appeared printed, I plan to reply with photos to the persian who asked me, to your email, but if it is of interest to some of this thread, and they ask me, then I publish it here,

richardcards 04-24-2021 05:02 PM

Hello

Was gonna say Coca Cola but was not sure.

Roland 49 04-24-2021 05:31 PM

Richard, many years ago on ebay these cards were sold as if they were Coca Cola, I do not know who with a great ignorance invented this, a few days ago I connected and saw those cards for sale as Coca Cola, it is a serious error, inside I'm going to show his real name for a while, now they called me and I have to go out

Sol de Oro 1949

1 Attachment(s)
Richard, I'm back, those cards belong to the collection "Sol de Oro" 1949, at the beginning of 2000, I bought a group inside its original label, sealed, it had never been opened, in a very good state of conservation, they were inside the Over more than 50 years, the collection of the 4 teams is numerous, they appear in Volume 2 of my catalogs, I think that many collectors did not know the name of this series, I would like some to comment on something and I would be grateful. I send you the photo of the label with the card that was inside.

Roland 49 04-26-2021 01:24 PM

A few days ago they asked me a question through my email and I decided that it should be known through the thread because I consider that it is important for collectors, since although that series is not one of the most important, but it has postcards from Dandridge and other players from the Black Leagues, no one that I know knew what trademark it belonged to, and I asked, Richard you were the only one who answered, so I published the photo of the original label with one of your postcards, I consider it important that collectors who have that Postcards know which series they belong to, I asked some of them to make a comment, but no one has, perhaps what is published by me is not interesting, but I am always ready to help you.

Punch 1910

Richard, days ago you asked me to mention from 1 to 5 the cards that I consider rarer, I have already spoken about that, I think # 1 should be the "Punch" they are rare and in great demand, the rarest of this collection It is the photo card with the team members in a group, the players in their original photo, without the brown frame that borders them on the cards and a black frame on the 4 edges, it is a super rare piece, larger and the factory gave a gift just like the letters. From 2 to 5, without putting order, "Billiken" and "La Moda" these also have the rarest piece which are the individual photos 8 X 10 inches, super rare, I follow "Mallorquinas" "Cabañas" "Aguilitas" 2nd series, etc, all are in great demand but they are not the rarest,

Butch, how good that you are back, those are the Havana and Almendares cards that I have, I have to look for the poster to measure it, now I send you the Baby of Almendares, it is very rare, I think you have never seen it, by Panchon Herrera I have several things but I have to look for them, when you see the baby tell me, take care.

scgaynor 04-27-2021 08:42 PM

I think that I know where the Coca-Cola reference comes from.

About 1998 or 1999 I was visiting my friend Jeff Eastland and we were looking over his collection of Cuban Baseball memorabilia. In his collection was a magazine with an advertisement for Coca-Cola picturing these cards. For a few years after that I often had these cards for sale on ebay and referred to them as Coca-Cola cards. Remember in the late 90's not much was known about Cuban issues so I just used the information available to me at the time based on the evidence in the magazine.

Scott, the first thing I will do is thank you for answering my request to comment on the writing of the "Golden Sun" and also give honest information and also the reason for your decision to put the cards on sale a long time ago as if they were from Coca Cola, what he said is correct, since their origin was never known before due to the lack of information, for my part I learned something new with you, and I am very happy that you participate in this thread, and I hope you continue to do so , thanks again and my regards to you.

Punch 1840 1

2 Attachment(s)
In response, the "Punch" factory was founded in 1840, by Don Manuel López, owner of J. Valle y Cia, the British market at that time had it among their priorities, at that time the humorous magazine "Punch" was fashionable. whose main character was "Mr. Punch" with tobacco in hand and they decided to put that image in the views of the packages, British smokers liked these cigars because the layers tend to be very careful reddish brown. You will see an image of a view from 1850 among two others from later times. I'll be back with the 2nd part.

Thanks for the info. I am surprised to see the Oms photo. By 44 I thought that he was already very ill and unable to play. Oms is also one of my favorite players, a forgotten great. Below is one of my favorite photos. Oms signing his contract and getting his check from Gonzalez.

Since you brought up Oms, I have another question for you. Below is a photo that I think may have been from a benefit game for Oms after his death. The reason that I think this is that the player in the Bottom left is identified on the reverse as Oms brother Tito. While I know that Tito and one other brother played on Sugar Mill teams with Alejandro when they were young, I have never seen another image of Tito and he looks well past his playing days.

Continuous, Manuel López was right to set his eyes on the English market, in 1559, a theatrical work called Cuban Ebullition was performed in London, the artists released the smoke with pressure and intermittently, in 1598 the German traveler P. Hentzener in his book "Memories of travel" writes that the English wherever they are smoke La Hierva Nicoteana, in 1620 Bernabe Rich, calculates the volume of sale in London that is half a million pounds that comes in each year. In the early years of the 20th century, several companies, including "American Tobacco" and several others, entered Cuba and bought 291 brands of tobacco and 85 cigarettes. In 1910, "Los Independientes" emerged, who were the ones who did not sell their factories. they were "Punch". Now you will see several images of this brand in boxes and rings.

When Sir Winston Churchill visited Havana, he visited the "Punch" factory on Monte y Zulueta streets, and had them prepare some cigars with chosen size, thickness, color and layers, and he named them "Churchill" vitolas. To be part of the brand's vitolario, as far as I know in the late 1990s, this vitola was still sold for export. The ring that you will see is from King GeorgeV, which was made by the factory in 1910, for his coronation, it is made with thin sheets of Gold, in lithographic stone, it coincides in the year of the Cigar cards with the players and you will see a view of tobacco printed in silver for the 25 years of his reign, made especially for the Shop East Orange in NJ with this I conclude the questions they asked me.

¡Hola, Roland!

¡Ja! ¡Nos estamos desmoronando!
Saludos...

Several candy factories are known that gave away cards for example players: Mallorquina, El Indio, Felices etc. Now I am showing you something very strange, the wrapping paper for the candies, in this case with the Almendares scorpion, when you bought the candies for 1 cent they would give you a card in a closed paper, when you took out the candy you would always throw away the wrap That's why it is super rare to see a piece of candy, do you agree with me?

Hi Rob, from Connors some time ago I published about the different cards, post cards etc. I am glad that you have seen things that you did not know in what I have written, from the question that you ask me about the 2 threads I will tell you: the second thread was opened by questions that they made me from my catalog that was on ebay, from what I see In the points of view there is a thread that sees it more than the other, but I don't know who sees them, maybe some see one and others the other thread, there are members who only write to me in 1 and others in 2, I receive Many questions in my email, for example, today I have answered 9 questions, sometimes those who ask me tell me to give the answer through the thread because they consider that they are answers that others might be interested in and they are right, sometimes as I have done today I have I dealt with topics that might be of interest and since I don't know who sees one or the other thread, I put it in both, for me it is more work to publish in both, that is my analysis, I try to please everyone, thanks for the question, I hope you answer me this email and I am ready to answer any questions you may have .

Thanks for the reply, Roland. I used to have a Caramelo Deportivo near set, minus the stars, but I sold it a while back. I show you a collection of cards from the "Pioneer Weekly" from 1970, you will see the sheet of cards without cutting, and a card, you will see that there is a striped line between the photo and the name, the sheet was glued to a cardboard and folded By the line, then the card after pasting it was seen from the front and the back like any other collection card, few copies of that series were made, it is not easy to get it, the complete series is 24 cards.

Yesterday I showed you the "Pioneer" collection from December 1970, today you will see the one from November 1971, these 40 cards but with the faces drawn, this collection is more common than the previous one. I have sometimes seen it on ebay, now I tell you An anecdote, about 8 or 9 years ago, the starting players of the National Series were invited to the Stadium to see a game of the Industriales team and a tribute to them, at the beginning of the game I go to the stands behind home play and I sit next to Pedro Chavez, we talked for about 10 minutes and I carried an envelope with 2 albums from this series, at that moment I showed it to Chavez so that he could sign his postcard, but he was amazed for a while looking, and He tells me: Rolando has passed many years and the first time I see him, it is something amazing, around us were the other veteran players, Marquetti, Vinent, Arias, Capiro, Puente, Rachath, Isasi, and the 2 albums went through the everyone's hands and they signed it, none of them I had seen them, I talked and shared with all of them, when I was going to retire shortly after, Chavez calls me and thanks me for teaching him something they did not know and for keeping those cards for so many years. I'll show you some of those signed cards. ,

Today I ask you, a while ago I was looking for some photos and I found an envelope with some postcards of Cubans in the Major Leagues, I had not seen them for many years and I remember that in the 90s I bought a lot of around 70 postcards of that time and separate in the envelope those of the Cubans, I ask you, what series do they belong to, year, price, etc.?

Now you will see another series of rather rare cards, I have 21 from Cubans and 2 from players from Mexico, I put the collection "Radio Rebelde" because it is the only information that appears on the back, I consider that they were printed in 1972, but I'm not sure, photos go.

Now I show you 2 marble sinks that were placed in the halls of the stadium in 2021, a continuation of the players who fought in the war of 1895, and the other of the women who played baseball in Cuba, some of them in the 19th century, some names are missing on the two boards and work is being done to recognize them on other boards soon.

2 or 3 days ago I opened a thread of photos of the Trinidad and Brother collection with President Hoover and Babe Ruth with a child, some of the members of net54 answered me and clarified some of my questions, I think some who see this thread are they connected, but perhaps others did not see it, I am going to post those photos here, Ruth's is in volume 2 of my catalogs, this photo is edited to show the part with the child.
