Any Members in Hawaii?-Scariest Morning Ever
1 Attachment(s)
Thinking someone needs to lose their job over this:
|
Agreed. Think of what people went through during the "Cold War" with Russia as students had to do Nuclear Bomb drills in school "Duck and Cover".
|
Agreed. Was in Hawaii 2 weeks ago and this would have instilled panic for sure. Glad all is ok.
|
What is the story behind this alert? Who sent it?
|
Not a good way to start your weekend.

Prior to getting a newer Samsung phone I was unaware of such a thing as a "Presidential Alert"! All the other alerts can be manually turned off but not that one
|
Hawaii Gov. David Ige told CNN that human error caused the alert to go out.
"It was a mistake made during a standard procedure at the change over of a shift, and an employee pushed the wrong button," he said So there you have it. |
Unreal. |
Just a "good morning" greeting from our friend, Kim Phlung Dung. :D
|
...and potus is busy crafting his fake news awards. Has a potus ever had an approval rating below the Mendoza line?

Figured this would somehow become political. Sheesh
|
Because next to 71buc's Clemente jersey, he hangs his "I'm With Her" t-shirt. Yeah, it's POTUS fault, d-bag!!!!

Are you sure you want to send out an Imminent Incoming Missile Warning? Yes. Are you really sure? Yes. Are you sure you're sure? Yes. Message sent. Ah crap! |
No politics please
71buc received an infraction and anyone else making overtly (or covertly :)) political comments in this thread will be suspended. thanks

This is not a drill! Take immediate action. Drink your best wine. Smoke a big fat joint. Oops, I saw it on FB. Nevermind.
|
I apologize to all members of the board for not thinking before I posted my comment. It was inappropriate and will not happen again.

Maybe the state of Hawaii should rethink their use of the "Staples Easy Button" for the deployment of ballistic missile alerts. |
I have a half-brother I've yet to met who lives there...I texted him and he said it was a nightmare...no one knew exactly what to do.

Reminds me of a GREAT movie, to an old timer like me anyways. " Fail Safe" is worth a watch to anyone who`s never seen or read the book.
|
I feel like this warning should need at least 2 people’s authorization to send out. Or maybe it’s just next to the time clock?
In all seriousness, I can’t imagine what that 38 minutes would have been like. Back to joking- slightly more intense than watching a PWCC auction go out of reach. |

Seems like it would be prime material for a Southwest Airlines commercial "want to get away?"

so, tom...
...in other words,
politicizing is bad, but violence is good? |

Was vacationing with my family in Waikiki in Dec and they tested the sirens, but they couldn’t be heard in our vicinity. We heard about the issue on the news that night. Not sure what I would have done if the we were there during this false alarm? Grabbed the wife and kid and then what? Scary.

If this would've happened Southern California, it would've been totally different. The freeways would've been bumper to bumper of people trying to get outta of L.A., etc. Mass hysteria, looting, etc. It's already stressed out enough. Good thing it didn't happen here.

Interesting observation about what reaction might be in different places, Richard.
|
At the end of the day, I am just very very thankful that it is not true. The threat of war is always real and all of us have a lot to be thankful for regarding this, not just those in Hawaii.

There were people putting their kids in storm drains.

I've been through my share of being blown around from rockets. Sometimes sparking the question "incoming?" so you knew whether or not you have time to wipe your ass before retaliating or just go with butt stank until the fight is over. I think I'd at least enjoy a wet wipe to the ass if I got a nuclear warning. I call total bullshit that it was a hap hazard mistake. Also, the best part of this site is not listening to anyone's political opinions. Keep that shit out of here.

[QUOTE=KMayUSA6060;1738768]There were people putting their kids in storm drains./QUOTE]
I shuddered when I saw this on the news last nite. This panic-stricken father potentially exposed his kid to greater harm, possibly fatally, by his actions. There is built up methane gas in storm drain lines from decomposing matter that can either knock you out, or kill quickly. Storm drain catch basins aren't a 2' drop but can be over 10'+. If the kid missed the grab bar / foot rungs, she could have a nasty fall. Never enter a storm drain structure w/o prior checking for presence of gasses with a gas detector. Never just pop a MH cover and jump in thinking it's safe. I speak from experience, having worked many years in muni infrastructures. |
