OT: Need Ideas to Raise Money for Charity (Baseball Related)

Posted By: Ben
Leon, I hope it is okay to post this here!

All of the Net54 users have been very helpful in the past and I'm hoping some of you can help again.

Here's the story...I am friends with a gentleman who is the founder of The Children’s Tree and Art Foundation, Inc. This foundation was started in my hometown of Tenafly, NJ after the local government decided it necessary to remove a 350 year old tree because it was dying. The foundation was created to keep the spirit of the 350-Year-Old White Ash Tree alive and also support art education and environmental awareness by providing financial support to individuals and groups who promote effective programs that teach children the values of art and conservation.

Here is where you guys come in - The foundation had Louisville Slugger handcraft a bat made from the wood of the 350 year old tree. The bat was then signed by Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez and Reggie Jackson. The bat will be raffled off with all proceeds going to benefit The Children's Tree and Art Foundation. The raffle is to be held on October 20, 2008.

I was hoping board members would offer advice as to where tickets to the raffle could be sold. The foundation is hoping to raise thousands of dollars for this project. If anyone has any advice/recommendations please share them. You can post here or email me at Nhale5516@aol.com. THANKS!

edited scan size

Posted By: leon
I am always a little careful on what I get the board into but I would be more than happy to help in some way. At minimum we can try to sell some on the BST pages....and I don't think a few announcements on the front page would be a bad thing either. It seems like a worthy cause and just the kind of thing I like to throw a few of the banner ad dollars at....Any one else with any ideas on how or where to sell tickets? Would ebay be a bad place, or do they even let things like that be sold? regards

Posted By: Rich Klein
Active downtown shopping area. If this is a local venture; I'd go store to store and see which local merchants I could get to help me on this venture. There might even be a card store left on the main drag in Tenafly, but it has been years since I've been there. I'd make sure to co-opt local merchants in this.

In addition, there is a passable card show in Garfield (about 15-20 minutes away from Tenafly) on the odd-numbered Sundays. I'd consider taking a table at that show on a one-time basis to hype the raffle amongst card collectors and you might be able to sell some of your cards as well. Bringing the bat with you may be helpful as well.

Send press releases via postal mail to all the local papers. By that, I mean both the Bergen Record as well as any of the local shopper papers in the area. Yes, I know email is more efficient but sending real letters has more of an impact and is still the best way to generate publicity.

Regards
Rich

Posted By: Ben
Guys,
Thanks for the brain storming. The Foundation has gone from store to store in downtown Tenafly and made a few sales of the raffle tickets. There is no card store in Tenafly anymore. The closest one is probably in Midland Park. I also suggested the Garfield card show (although it is quite small and never seems to have much going on there). I thought the Net54 board might be a good place to sell tickets but for some legal reason I was told that tickets could only be sold to people in New Jersey. I will have to ask for clarification on this point. Thanks Again!

Posted By: Ben
Bruce,
Thanks for the ideas. I will pass these along to the Foundation. I believe the tickets are $20.00 each.
