Asking for help

I ACQUIRED THE ATTACHED PHOTO A NUMBER OF YEARS AGO AND HAVE NOT SEEN ANOTHER. I SENT IT TO PSA RIGHT AFTER THEIR MAIN GRADER LEFT
AND RECEIVED IT BACK AS NOT BRETTS SIGNATURE. I WAS GOING TO ERASE IT IF I COULD BUT MAYBE NEED TO RESUBMIT IT AGAIN. YOUR OPINION IS APPRECIATED. IT IS A SHARPIE AUTO AND NOT PRINTED. THE PHOTO IS A
TYPE 1 IN MY HUMBLE OPINION AND I OWN ALOT OF THEM OF BRETT. tHE SECOND PICTURE IS JUST THE AD THE PHOTO WAS USED IN

Im not an expert, but looks pretty good to me

I agree, that looks spot on. Late 80s/early 90s example. TPAs got that one wrong in my opinion.

looks good to me as well (don't erase it!)

bRETT AUTO

tHANK YOU SO MUCH, WILL SEND IT BACK IN AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS.
AM I BETTER OFF TO SUBMIT IT TO SOMEONE ELSE OTHE THEN PSA

If you're now satisfied that the auto is good, then why would you want or need to have PSA look at it again?

mybestbretts 09-24-2020 02:02 PM

good question

I am a collector of type 1 brett photos and want to get it authenticated so I might as well try to get the autograph authenticated at the same time for $25 bucks. As a collector of photos I really don't want the autograph on the photo if it isn't real. Just me I guess

Try use Beckett or one of the other couple of reputable authentication companies if you are concerned with PSA failing it again. Remember in the end you are paying for an opinion. The overwhelming majority of members on this board think your piece is good to include myself. I have come to believe the members of this board to be some of the best in the hobby when it comes to analyzing the nuances of a signature. This membership is very quick to call out bogus stuff and yours has not been called out.

Again, my big question as others have asked already is why get it authenticated?
Having their approval does mot all if a sudden make it "real". A type 1 photo is a type 1 phot regardless if whether or not it's authenticated by some authority. Authentication is a service that provides people with an OPINION on what their item is. This service has its uses, but, like all other services it also has its pitfalls.
If you feel certain that its a type 1 photo and you feel comfortable that the auto is real, why would you need to pay a company to confirm your knowledge? To me, as i said before, the only situation that that makes sense is that the cert is going to make you be able to sell your item for more money(at least enough yo offset the cost of the cert) or more quickly. If you intend to keep it for another 20yrs, why do you need it now?
Taking the money you spend on the cert and using it to buy more photos/items, seems to be a far better investment long term. When you go to sell, you, or whatever auction house you use, can spend the money getting everything certed prior to the sale. You then have the choice of who to use, based on who is considered the best at the time. Perhaps with a large enough collection, you might be able to negotiate a bulk discount.
For myself, TPAs do not provide peace of mind for things i intend to keep. Other opinions differ. If you feel it's worth it, go for it. Just remember that just because an item fails a TPA service does mean its not real.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
