1952 globe printing

Hi All:
Would like to start a thread to see if there are any collectors on N54 or elsewhere who collects the 1952 Globe Printing minor league cards and who would like to compare notes. I am always buying from this "set" at reasonable prices.

Hope to hear from any and all of you and thanks a lot,

Mark K. Bowers

Hi Mark, I'm not sure how much I can add to this topic, but I'd love to pick up some more Globes for my type collection. So far, all I have are cards from Blossom Dairy, MD Super Service and the 1952 Stockton Ports. If anyone would like to trade a Globe card from a set I don't have, I have an extra Dairy Blossom and an extra MD Super Service — and they're in great shape. Since every thread needs a card, here's one I acquired from you, Mark, a few years back ...

Thanks Chris. I hope others chime in.

I've been very, very, very slowly obtaining San Jose Red Sox cards. They just do not come up very often.

I also have some of the team cards issued for San Jose (I've posted a few below), and a number of programs. Globe printing was in San Jose and they printed SJ programs and team photos for a number of years.

I have seen the San Jose card album, although I don't have a picture handy. Would love to get it some day. I'd also really like to get the Marv Owen card if anyone has one to spare.

Globes

Wow Marc thanks for chiming in. I knew there were other Globe collectors out there.

I only have one San Jose Globe - Sobscak - who I played for in 1962 at San Jose State. Am always looking for more but they are hard to come by.

Tell me, are the team pix actual "cards" or are they the 8 X 11 variety ? Let's keep in touch and maybe we can help each other one of these days.

Here's an article from the late Bob Lemke about Globe cards. He touches on a question I've had for years: is it possible that the same folks behind Globe Printing made the Remars and other PCL sets from the late 40s? There are certainly similarities between the various sets. Bob also mentions a flood that destroyed a lot of inventory.

Also, does anyone have a list of all the teams Globe did, including those only available in albums? Here's a page from the only Globe album I have ...

The Globe Printing cards look cool. One I hope to get some day is the card of Clyde Brud Perry, because he was the son one of my favorite players, Clyde Oscar "Tub" Perry, who played one year in the PCL and another 25 as a star pitcher-outfielder in semi-pro baseball. A Clyde Brud is currently on eBay for $200, way out of my price range.

Mark- the two San Jose team cards I posted earlier are 5 x 7. I guess they aren't really Globe cards in the same sense that the player cards are, but they were almost certainly printed by Globe Printing because of the San Jose connection.

I'm also posting a 1954 team image. It is larger (6.5 by 10). The players names in the box makes it look more like a Globe card.

I'm also posting two images that I have posted before. Both come from a 1953 program printed by Globe. It is for a game between the NY Giants and Cleveland Indians played in San Jose. It has a full page advertisement for Globe Printing, including a picture of a display that includes cards and albums. There is also a page in the book with Giants and Indians players, printed with the typical Globe card look (and some bad spelling... Monte Erwin). I thought these were interesting, and wondered if any cut from a program had ever shown up on the market.

Globe Printing

Hi Marc:

Thanks a lot. In addition in 1949 Globe published a book called "Your California League" in which they pictured almost all of the players, in card form, for each club.

I do not do scans but if you will email me your address I will mail you copies. My email is in this thread above but is mkbow2@surewest.net. I think you will like to see it and add it to your collection.

I have had this book for many years and have never seen another one.

Here is a 1930 Zeenut of Clyde "Tub" Perry, as seen from Rhett's great website starsofthediamond

Hopefully you have one already, but if not, this card should not be too tough (or expensive) to eventually track down.

I know it shouldn't be hard to find, but finding individual Zeenuts is like finding a needle in a haystack. I've never found one for sale. Thanks for the picture.

I am working on the 1954 Blossom Dairy set. Anybody out there got any to sell or trade?

The late Bob Lemke did a lot of research on these sets a few decades ago. This links to one of his blog posts on Globe, with more links within:

Welcome to Net54. There are Buy/Sell/Trade sections further down for this type of post.

I have heard this from most Z collectors. There are some other rare sets like that to. Find a specific player for Mothers Bread or Victory Tobacco? Good luck...
