Sacrilege

OK. A bit melodramatic, but it would be nice to this stuff kept together:

I saw that earlier this morning too. It is a shame if the items are split up--don't they all have to be burned together to undo the pain caused by that home run?:)

Brian Van Horn 09-18-2013 02:54 PM

Oh, a Yankees fan?! I believe now these historic pieces should be bronzed! How you do that to a uniform is beyond me.

Iron Horse 09-18-2013 03:23 PM

maybe the HOF should buy it

Mark 09-18-2013 03:31 PM

I'd be surprised if the Hall of Fame did not make serious bids for this stuff.

Brian Van Horn 09-18-2013 04:59 PM

Well, according to a story on KDKA, the bat and cleats have already been bronzed.

I wonder if he needs the money or just old enough to appreciate that stuff is just stuff.

I don't think he needs money. He is the retired face of the franchise for the Pirates, they take care of him pretty good and I'm sure if he needed something they would be there for him. Also I doubt part of the sales would be going to charity if he needed money. I'm actually surprised the team doesn't want one of the items, but who knows, maybe they do. I know they have bought other stuff in the past

Those items belong in Cooperstown.

+1

He said he looked at the "stuff" one time in 53 years.

Good for him --

Those are truly historic items -- let them go for big bucks, and hopefully the highest bidder will donate them to the HOF or another museum. Maz (and his grandkids, probably) deserve the windfall.

At least the jersey and bat aren't being cut up to make 1000 game used cards!

I would imagine the bat and jersey will bring big bucks, not too sure about the cleats.

Agreed. Nothing irks me more than seeing a Babe Ruth card with a piece of a destroyed bat, or uniform. It's so wasteful.

Butch7999 09-19-2013 01:28 AM

There's some assurance that the winning bidder on these items won't be a card company that will run them through a shredder?
