2011 Topps Gold question...

Looking for some expertise on this issue...because I have no real experience with these particular parallels at all.

does anyone know how widely variable the foil on these cards might be?

I have a colleague who is interested in a Mike Trout gold rookie. When I look at ebay "sold" and well as the few that are "for sale", there seem to be two distinct types.

One where the "60 Years of Collecting" in the upper right and the border around the banner where his name is located are both very silver and clean looking. The other version has the "60 Years" almost blue/gray and the name border is also muted.

Both versions have have examples where they have been graded by PSA and BGS.

Is one of these versions a reprint or counterfeit that was mistakenly authenticated...or is there really that much variation in the printing?

I tried to google known fakes for this variant and couldn't find any...but it's way too pricey of a card to wing it. I tried to capture and post some images off ebay without success...but it is pretty apparent even with a cursory look

thanks for any help

I’ll bet $1 that all the “blue/grey” versions you have come across are scans from a bed and all the “silver” versions are smart phone photos probably at an angle catching the flash. Happened to me on a separate card a while back and then it hit me.

that is certainly possible...but there were several examples from what looked like multiple angles and orientations. The really clean silver ones seem fewer...I remember there were a couple of years where they issued reprints...and I was hoping these weren't doctered and somehow got authenticated.

in hand, all might be revealed...
