Posted By: John S
Truly amazing...I am drooling over the E270 Jackson. My wife already threatened me with death if I even think about bidding.

Posted By: Bob
I received my catalogue Tuesday along with an invitation but I think I am going to keep my $100 admission fee and use it to spend on cards on the floor. I am anxiously awaiting the next Mastro auction but unless anyone wants to form a cartel to bid on the E99s, I don't see much in the live auction I could afford

Posted By: Jeff Lichtman
I agree. Really new ground broken with this catalogue - at last the catalogues approach the level of beauty of its packing tape. Also, the selection of items to be auctioned are a real mix of eclectic and rare for the most part. Cat, please be drunk and passed out by item 70 or so.

Posted By: MikeU
Agreed, fantastic selection, literally every item, and presentation.

I forget, but somebody on here owns/posted the W555 snapshots box that is listed. At the time, I do not remember anyone posting how it actually came together. From the Mastro photo's, the mystery is solved.

Posted By: rand
i wonder why the Pirates group is offered in 1 lot. i would think the Matty could be worth $100,000+ on its own. i guess Mastro i looking to have a huge sale on this group.

Posted By: leon
I have been there before on selling a set of cards, and debating on whether to break them up or not. For me the pendulum swings a little bit to the "keeping it whole" side....As that is what I did also..

Posted By: leon
You would think that with all my "favored nation" status with Mastro I would have been one of the first to get the catalogue? It did arrive today though. My wife said "is it good?" meaning is it all of the Americana stuff and no cards....I said "not really". She was bummed. She did say it looks like a coffee table type item. Very impressive....and the items up for auction are sensational....regards

Posted By: Paul
Do you think Mastro really put those Pirate cards on the beach? Or did they use T206s? Or Photoshop?

Posted By: MVSNYC
i haven't seen the photo you are talking about, but i can answer this anyway.

no, they did not really put actual cards on a beach. Mastro's is infamous for doing cool "photoshop" montages on their covers...

i even have "The Wagner Reunion" poster (thanks jay), which has 11 wagners laying (raw) on a jersey & glove...

very convincing, but obviously photoshoped.

edited twice for horrible spelling.

Posted By: Phil Garry
I think they did a great job with the presentation of the catalogue. Very few items in the catalogue are of interest to me as among the vintage card lots, the focus is primarily on set-type material and super-high dollar amount cards. Nothing that I can really afford and want at the same time.

Posted By: Dan Bretta
I'm glad they sent me a catalog, but there is no way I can afford a single lot in this auction. How do they get that many high dollar items for one auction and they're still scheduled for another premier auction what, next month?

Does the high bidder of the Pirate cards get to have the provenance information on this set? Why isn't the provenance listed in the catalog? I want to know where these came from.

Posted By: MVSNYC
pretty smart, IMO...

tier the brand: good, better, best...classic, premier, live.

...throws a bigger net out there and satisfies the needs and wants of collectors across the board.

i work for a hi-profile company that has made billions by "tiering the brand".

Posted By: Dan Bretta
I think if you look at the Classic auctions since they started them the lots are starting to look like they should be in the premier auctions. Not that it's that big of a deal to me as I'm streamlining my collection right now and doing a good job staying focused. I know that when they have that one item I "need" I will be able to go after it.
