help with ebay live auction

Posted By: andy
hassinger-courtney is an ebay seller with 300 auctions currently up. the auctions are the same format as robert edwards last auction with ebay live. my questions are:
1. do hassinger-courtney have a different % for non ebay bids (robert edwards was 15% through them and 20% through ebay)? do they even have a way to bid other than ebay?
2. since i've only bid directly through robert edwards (and never through ebay in a " ebay live" auction), does an "ebay live" auction work differently than regular ebay regarding bidding? i will say, if there isn't a great difference, i would like to add 15% juice to all my ebay auctions can anyone tell me how ?
3. has anyone had any transactions with hassinger-courtney??? their ebay feedback is 75, which would seem a little low for an auction house.
thanks in advance for any help.

Posted By: hankron
eBay only accepts established auction houses for the Live auctions. For example, Sotheby's has done a few Live Auctions. Typically, the seller will be knowedgeable and experienced with the material. Most Live Auctions don't have a parallel auction like REA or Superior, and there is no 'double juice' charge. Some will have actual on location live bidding at the end, but that doesn't ordinarilly raise any percentage.

Posted By: Art M.
I was a bidder today in the Hassinger-Courtney Ebay live auction. I put in a modest bid for a T206 card and won. However, when checking the bidding history I was puzzled:

http://offer.liveauctions.ebay.com/ws3/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBids&item=2243988709

I placed my absentee bid of $50 at 12:13pm today. I did not bid again.
And no, I did not shill myself! No reserve on the auction either.
Any ideas how I could run myself up from $35 to $50??

Art

Posted By: bcornell
The bidding is "absolute", i.e., your bid goes in at the exact amount you entered. This is different than eBay's proxy bidding where you win at the next highest bid increment. The bid history shows each bid increment ($5, in this case) from the second highest bid up to your own.

Bill

Posted By: brian p
It appears like this happened to a lot I won, as the bidding history showed me placing several incremental bids with no competition at the end of the auction, but I however won the lot one bid increment less than the maximum bid I placed. I just read ebay's guidelines to this type of auction, and unless I missed it, 'absolute' bids are not mentioned, and the main differences in the bidding appears to result from the need to accomodate live auction bids.

Anyone else have an idea?

Brian

Posted By: RobertS
I placed several "live" bids today that appeared to register but didn't appear in the bidding list. Only the winning bidder's inceremental raises did. Meaning, I guess, that the "live" bids I placed only registered as pushing up his bid.

That said -- the system is awful. Several of my bids seem to have been rejected. I thought I won two lots when I didn't. Worse -- one of my bids on a card was placed but appeared as the third bid on the next lot (a Harlem Globetrotters item!).

My lesson -- place regular limit bids and don't try to use the eBay Live function in real time!

Of course, I lost my limit bids, as well -- so I think I'm swearing off eBay Live...
