Designs that you are irrationally/sentimentally fond of...

What sets are you either irrationally or sentimentally fond of, regardless of value?

I recently picked up a 1992 Score Griffey PSA 10 and already had the Canseco and Thomas and love them all. The design of 1992 Score is among my absolute favorites, I would even put it ahead of 1987 and 1989 Topps of which I also love.

I remember either walking or riding my bike to the local corner store in the middle of nowhere valley in Montana and buying the huge jumbo packs for 59 cents. It was an absolute joy and the design brings me back to those days almost immediately.

I admire this type of collector who truly buys and collects what they love.
Those are really nice additions. Do you plan on going for the set in slabs?

My irrational collection is my burgeoning slabbed 1988 Topps Big set.
Here's a few examples:

Wow! That set design is one of my favorites as well! 1989 Big was great too. This is the kind of thing I was looking for when I started this thread.

As for the entire 1992 Score set slabbed? Definitely not. I've thought about it, but the set is huge and I don't have a ton of space. I will likely pick up some stars or players I enjoyed watching back then as the years go by I'm sure.

I have a fondness for '86 Topps. The more beat up, the better!

Beautiful centering! :D

1986 Topps is an excellent design. I opened a couple boxes of it about a year ago and had a blast.

I really like cards with a lot of red. Like Sammy says some like it hot but I like it RED. 1990 Donruss and the red cards in the 1990 Score are my among my favorites. Also really like the 89 Topps All Star cards.

Nice! Yeah, I'm planning to retire after selling that one :)

Loved those 88' Bigs. Thought I was the only one. Hated most of the regular Topps designs after 1983, but loved a lot of their oddball junk issues that nobody else seemed to like.

I've got a few of those 1985 Topps big 3D boxes laying around. Loved those big stupid cards. :D

All great choices above.

Bought my first 1985 3D cards earlier this year.

I have quite a few of the Big when originally collecting as a kid.

Most definitely would be 1986 Topps as that was the first year I really got into bugging my father to pick me up a pack or two of cards anywhere we went.

1990 Topps also holds a special place in my heart as well though I couldn't for the life of me tell you why.

Absolutely love 1985 Topps and collect them in every version: retail, Tiffany, mini, giant, Gallery of Champions, and prototypes.

Just can’t get enough of that set.

Admit I also like the 1985 3ds as mentioned by others (because it was a 1985 issue), but think the 1986 3D had just a better look. Those sets are also admittedly one huge pain in the a** to store, lol.

Agreed on 1990 Topps, I love that design.

Not exactly vintage, but other than the 1987 topps.... 98 Fleer Tradition. The colors pop, good enough set of cards and updates. Plus, got Piazza in all three uniforms. Always hunting Piazza Marlins cards.

Great photography in that set. I am also partial to Marlins Piazza stuff for some reason. Probably the same way that I'm partial to Canseco, Boggs, and McGriff Devil Rays stuff.

Piazza had a cool Pacific card that pictured in all 3 uniforms from that week on 1 card. 1998 Omega? I think. It was a really cool hit when I was a kid

In a word:

Dufex

Select Stars inserts, Pinnacle Museum parallels, Home Run Club box set, etc., etc. I love the look of these cards, so long as they haven't suffered any "greening."

Oh boy do I love Dufex! Pinnacle knew how to rope me in as a kid with cards like that. The Museum Collection and Starburst were great!

1988 Score baseball, 1992 Fleer Ultra baseball, 1993 Upper Deck baseball.

But I guess it's like having your favorite desert stuffed down your throat until you puke. Just too much product.
