Too much consternation on Net54, lately....here's Blondie (Studio 54) to entertain us

http://www.journalistate.com/worldwide/five-four/17

One of my favorite Singers in the late 1970's to early 1980's was Debbie Harry. Every time I hear her songs, I have flash-backs to my early BB card
collecting days (when I returned to the hobby).

Perhaps, all this "nasty" rhetoric on Net54 regarding card trimming, TPG's, bad grading practices, etc., etc. can be dispensed with and we can return
to more meaningful conversations related to BB card collecting on Net54.

Thanks guys,

Ted...I too love Blondie...too much consternation? Maybe?

But a return to the status quo and ceasing to discuss these issues will not be/IS not good for the hobby.

Peter_Spaeth 08-28-2019 09:51 AM

Name the song. "I said don't stop, do punk rock."

slidekellyslide 08-28-2019 09:54 AM

Debbie Harry was super hawt, and I'll listen to Blondie any day, every day, but I can't think of a more "meaningful conversation" at this moment than the massive fraud that's been going on for decades now.

Hi Dan

…."but I can't think of a more "meaningful conversation" at this moment than the massive fraud that's been going on for decades now."

…..this moment !..... ? ?

It's been going on for decades, and many in this hobby have known this.

However, for a good number of us in this hobby, who don't live (or die) by the graded-card-syndrome, this crisis is NOT traumatic. We just keep-on collecting....all our favorite BB
players from our favorite sets.

Just saw her open for Elvis Costello at a Winery Concert...

Still sounded good, but never played "One Way or Another". Maybe they're just sick of performing that song, but it would have made for a pretty good encore.

Thats a rare one. She still has 4 sharp corners. Presents well and tremendous eye appeal. Would not look out of place in a 10 holder. ;)
I recently watched her with Tom Petty in one of those Axis concerts
(channel 340 on Directtv)

You and a bunch of us at a certain age.

I was going with a really cute blonde gal at the time that kinda looked like DH. She turned out to be crazy as a loon. There is a chart for that.

"Only a dude is below a 4 Crazy."

Watch to the end and you'll see the chart for men.

I remember goint to Studio 54 and dancing with Blondie. Oh wait! That was a dream. :(

Blondie

I met Blondie back in the day in my old stomping grounds in Jersey City.
Her lead guitar player Frank Infante lived around the corner from me and invited her to come and have drinks in our local bar . She arrived in a Limo and only stayed a few minutes. She looked even better in person.

Any Grand Theft Auto fans out there? Hell, it was a long time ago and it was probably, maybe, GTA 3(?), but her song "Rush Rush" just got stuck in your head as you were driving around causing havoc. It was seemingly always emanating from the car speakers.

"Rush rush, got the yeyo?
Buzz buzz, gimme yeyo
Rush rush, got the yeyo?
Yo yo, no no yeyo"

Hey guys

My teenage daughters....Debbie and Zoe....at the time got me "hooked" on Debbie Harry.
"The Tide is High" was always my favorite Blondie's song.

Now this is what I'm referring to as "more meaningful conversations". Where we aren't "busting each other's chops" over the ongoing TPG fiasco.

Hi Frank

Stevie Nicks and Christine McVie of Fleetwood Mac rank high on my favorite list.

There are just too many great 1960's - 1970's groups that we could list here. My
all-time favorite group of that era is CHICAGO. You had to see and hear them live
to really appreciate them.

I saw Chicago in Princeton, NJ in 1974 or so. I would concur.

I was at the Westbury Music Fair (LI, NY) in the early 1970's, when the original group put on a tremendous performance.
Afterwards, Chicago treated us to several encore's at the end of the concert responding to the audience's many requests.

Saw Chicago again in 1993 at the Valley Forge Music Fair. They weren't quite the original group; however, their Jazz-Rock
sound was still sensational.

Here's a "toughie", Peter....what's your favorite Chicago song ?

"Old Days" mentions baseball cards, which is pretty cool.

mattsey9 08-29-2019 12:45 AM

Debbie and Stevie both rock, but do they have a baseball card like Joan Jett? She's an all-time favorite, and an Orioles diehard.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...28f1bd15de.jpg

I have had the pleasure of meeting Debbie Harry a few times while she was in Blondie and when she was performing with the Jazz Passengers. My favorite songs by the band are their cover of the Randy and the Rainbows song 'Denise' and the comeback hit 'Maria'.

barrysloate 08-29-2019 08:45 AM

My favorite Blondie song is "Heart of Glass", but it gets very little love these days, and I don't know why.

My seventh grade music teacher said "Saturday In The Park" was her favorite song of all time. Have to admit, that's a good one.

My cousin went to school with Debbie and still keeps in touch with her.

Speaking about favorite Chicago songs....

"Saturday In The Park" is certainly one of their great songs. I remember when I first heard it, it was exactly 47 years ago this month. It reminded us
of our many visits to Central Park in NYC.

I guess my favorite song has to be...."Does Anyone Really Know What Time It Is ?"....since it's the first song of theirs that I heard (50 years ago this
Summer....WOW !)

Followed by...."25 or 6 to 4"...."Beginnings"...."Colour My World"...."Make Me Smile" (not necessarily in that order).

Thanks guys for all your inputs to this thread, it's been quite interesting and fun..

Never hear it played much, but the jam called Get Away after Hard to Say I'm Sorry (which is a pretty cheesy Peter Cetera 80s tune) is pretty good, especially live.

"….especially live"…..well said, Dan.

Having been to Chicago and Creedence Clearwater Revival concerts.... I say it doesn't get any better than them.

Speaking about Creedence Clearwater Revival......John Fogerty immediately flashes in my mind.
And, here's my last remaining OLD JUDGE. Could this Jim Fogarty be John's Great-Grandfather ?
Yeh, you're laughing :)...... anyway, both Jim and John were born in San Francisco.

My favorite CCR song is "I Heard It Through the Grapevine".....all 11 minutes of it (its length used to drive the radio Disc Jockeys crazy).

Tell us of your favorite CCR song ?

Grapevine is mine as well.

2 best cover songs ever are CCRs Grapevine and Vanilla Fudge "You Keep Me Hanging On"

I bought a 45 copy of Heart of Glass when I was a kid. For a while the only records I had were Blondie and Styx Renegade.

I saw the Cetera Chicago at the Houston Rodeo at the Astrodome in the early 80's. Great concert.

CCR has always been one of my favorite bands. Proud Mary is my favorite CCR song.

I also think Jim and John are probably related. Jim was featured in many 19th century issues...

They spell their last names differently, so I think probably not.

Jim

You may be right, and then, Rob may be right. In any event, I suggested a possible John / Jim connection simply due to their common names and birthplace :)

Let's not take this too serious....for with this thread, I'm just trying to lighten up the ongoing mood on this forum this past month regarding the TPG fiasco(s).

I'm married to an Irish gal. And I have noticed with the Irish that it's not unusual for them to slightly modify the spelling of their surnames (especially vowels).
