1-of-1's - Show Your Unique Cards
Posted By: T206Collector
One of the cool things about collecting autographed pre-war cards is that they are extremely rare, and may, in fact, be totally unique. These cards and the Cy Young super overprint that just sold on ebay got me thinking -- what other pre-war cards are totally unique, i.e., only 1 known example (or at least under a small handful).

Just one rule -- no cards that are unique solely by virtue of their grade by a third party grading company (e.g., highest graded T206 Unglaub doesn't count). What I am looking for here are cards that completely transcend grade because of scarcity.

Here's what I think is probably my rarest card -- a dual-signed T201:

<im g src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/pmifsud3d/RxQJqntTj-I/AAAAAAAAB5I/u3pPf_N_H3s/s800/Doyle-Meyers%20T201%20Auto%20SGC%2040.jpg" />

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

Visit http://www.t206collector.com for signed deadball card galleries, articles and more!

1-of-1's - Show Your Unique Cards
Posted By: Brian McQueen
I know everyone's seen these two multiple times in the past but they're two of my favorites so I figured they deserved a spot in this thread.

The Payne represents, possibly the most difficult player to find in the e90-3 set. However, it's normally found with a green background. This blue variant may be the only one of it's kind and is from a sheet that originally missed a color pass during production. A few other blue e90-3s have turned up as well for Smith, Tinker, etc...

Not only is the Dolan a unique card, but this represents an entirely unique background color as well. I am not aware of any other e94s that have been found with this grey/silverish back.

1-of-1's - Show Your Unique Cards
Posted By: Jodi Birkholm
Brian,

Too bad that the 1910 American Caramels didn't all look like that! To me, they rank right up there in beauty with that Sporting Life set. There's something about that pale background that really brings the player's portraits into the forefront. I would love to see ANY signed cards from either set, but doubt any exist. Anyone?

Posted By: Jodi Birkholm
Sean,

Interesting Joe Judge! The Whitehill isn't a 1/1, though. I'm still not certain whether or not I have seen another signed example of the Bengough--I want to say I have, just to be safe, but can't find a scan of said in my exemplar files.

Posted By: Tom Hufford
Paul,

Sorry, I neglected to say, or to post a scan, - the back of this Atlanta card is a postcard, and it was postally sent in 1907. It would have been nice to find out it was a tobacco issue - but even as a postcard, I haven't seen another.

Tom

1-of-1's - Show Your Unique Cards
Posted By: Frank Wakefield
You guys have posted some great cards. Some very interesting cards. Some cards I'd like to own (love that Atlanta Crackers card!!). But hardly any of them truly fit the definition of unique.

I have a T200 premium of the Cleveland team. It is banged a bit, and I've not seen another. But I don't think Fatima sent out only one of them. I doubt it is unique.

This is a 2004 Topps Cracker Jack mini white card of Al Leiter. If Topps is to be believed, it is 1 of 1, unique. Not because it is signed, not because no others have been found, nor graded... but because Topps issued only one white background mini Cracker Jack card for each player in that set.
