Posted By: T206Collector
Up until recently I had 45 of the 50 here, and would not have posted a scan of 45 cards on this thread. That would make for an unbelievably long and unreadable thread if more than a few people with near sets chimed in.

I think the scarcities thread would be very interesting. But, "post all your Southern Leaguers," would be a problem, too. Too many scans, not enough useful data to be gleaned from them.

Posted By: Dave F
The purpose of the thread was not for everybody to post each of the cards on the top 50 they own. That would be rather stupid. It was just to get a scan of each of the cards on the list by board members. I didn't want to see 15 different Paige's. Usually when we've had these kind of threads people would have enough sense to post two or three they have and then see if someone else could fill in the rest.....if one person posted 48 of the 50 cards...would pretty much take any fun out of the thread. Oh well.

But, that was
10 years ago, and in your defense, how could ever foresee the impact that Ebay was to make.

Anyhow, the 1500 figure you noted was for the T205 Hoblitzell (no stats) card I consigned to you.

The Magie card, I consigned to you, sold for 2000. Today that card would have probably graded a
"3" or a "40" (depending who graded it). And, on ebay would garner about 20K.

Posted By: JimB
George,
Nice card. For a card like that, either PSA or SGC is fine. I have not noticed any difference in prices realized based on grading company for a card like that. People interested in those sorts of cards look at the card itself. As for the grade, I think either PSA or SGC would give it a vg/ex 4. No qualifiers necessary in my opinion. Centering might be a problem if it were an 8, but not at that level.
JimB

Posted By: Scott L
Peter
Thanks for asking the question, gave me an excuse to look at a card I hadn't looked at in a while. Back has no paperloss and the card is crease free. I looked in the light to see if I could see any spider wrinkles and if they're there I can't see them. Given that and the fact that the card has nice centering I agree that it is probably undergraded. I actually bought it from Richard Ha on the B/S/T page and I remember him making a comment that the card looked like a 6 or something to that effect.

Dave
As I mentioned above I picked it up a few months ago from Richard Ha. My one and only SLer to date.

Bill
I noticed Billy Latsko for the first time this year while watching a Florida game. Of coure, that depends on what you call the AA as a major league but many 19th century experts do consider that a major league

Regards
Rich

http://www.baseball-almanac.com/pitching/pinohit4.shtml

I better acquire a better BB encyclopedia.

Thanks for the enlightenment....and also, I should have went with my 1st thought on this subject.

TED Z

Posted By: DMcD
Barry: According to NYT archives first ball thrown out at Twins inaugural game (against NY on April 11 at Yankee Stadium) was by Borough President James J. Lyons. First ball thrown out at Minnesota's home opener (on April 21 versus "new" Washington Senators) was by Governor Elmer Anderson. Either way I think I am missing something. I thought the answer was going to be someone cool like Bob Dylan or Baby Jay Behrens.
