Would Anyone...(ahem)...Like to Have a NY Dinner?
Posted By: barrysloate
Okay- I know I am setting myself up for endless humiliation and ridicule, and I know every wise guy is going to come up with some clever comment, but that said...

Would anyone like to get together for a dinner in NY one night? On the strength of our recent meeting, I think we could get it done. Everyone got along great, nobody drew a switchblade (okay, so maybe we did get cut up a little) but at the end of the meeting we all emerged unscathed.

The key is to pick a place and a date and go with it. We don't need everybody to suggest their five favorite steakhouses. We need a few suggestions, a time, and then we'll just get together for a good time. Let's all be good boys and girls and see if we can accomplish this. I'll help coordinate, but perhaps somebody wants to suggest the venue.

Posted By: Mark Holt
Barry - my suggestion is that you set the place and the time. Those that can make it will do so. Leaving it open sets you up for more suggestions and discussion than you are likely to want. Living in Virginia I'm not likely to be there but that's my 2 cents anyway. However if you're ever down in the Williamsburg area I'll set up a lunch/dinner etc....

Posted By: Joe D.
if it is during the week... I am in. On the weekend, I have to check with my better half.

Mark's suggestion is a good one. Barry you pick the date / time / place - and see who can make it.

Would Anyone...(ahem)...Like to Have a NY Dinner?
Posted By: barrysloate
I would make the choice, but because I live in a section of Brooklyn that is so rich in good and affordable restaurants- the street two blocks from me is known as "Restaurant Row" (Smith Street)- we almost always eat in Brooklyn and rarely go into Manhattan for dinner anymore. So I think there are Manhattanites who know the good places better than I do. And I don't think it's realistic to have it in Brooklyn, unless some steak eaters want to do the Peter Luger's route, or simply come into my Cobble Hill neighborhood where I know an endless number of great places.

Would Anyone...(ahem)...Like to Have a NY Dinner?
Posted By: MVSNYC
barry, i agree with mark, let's just pick a date & place and roll with it...let me think about it over the weekend, i have several places in mind (they will be different choices then before)...

Posted By: barrysloate
Michael- you seem to know the city better than I do. Why don't we go along the lines of something casual, not too loud, where we can enjoy some conversation and just have a nice evening. It doesn't have to be a four star restaurant, just a place to relax and have a good time.

|
Would Anyone...(ahem)...Like to Have a NY Dinner?
Posted By: Jeff Lichtman
I can make it during the week after next.

Payard is a French bistro but they serve a good steak. The place is pretty mellow upstairs and I've sat at a big table. I think we should see how many we can get together for a dinner and then make a plan. So far it's Mike, Barry and me. Hopefully Jim and Bruce can join us and a few others.

|
Would Anyone...(ahem)...Like to Have a NY Dinner?

You can still find saloons and bars where you can pull a few tables together, have beers and burgers, and get away with your mortgage intact.

But count me in on the next one, if it is okay with you guys, wherever it is.
Tom

My wife Jeannette and I spent a most enjoyable day visiting with Max Weder and his wife Jennifer Ettinger last week whilst visiting Beautiful British Columbia. Max has some amazingly cool stuff and it was just plain fun to poke around his library. It was also a treat to see Jennifer's baseball art. She got skills! The ultimate highlight was a chance to play a game of flipper baseball on Max's arcade game. Big Fun! Ate dinner at the Watermark Restaurant on Kitsilano Beach. Food was great. Restaurant was crowded, we ate on the patio which was, unfortunately, colder'n a witch's beltbuckle in Canada in January but, fortunately, my Elmer Fudd hat was OK by their dress code. They even supplied the blanket.
