September Pick Ups
1 Attachment(s)
I like to start off monthly pick up threads slow, so they have the chance to build up momentum. Here is a nice looking card from the BST $1 starting bid auction section offered by LuckyLarry that just came in...a 1929 R316 Kashin of Mark Koenig.

Picked this up in Leland’s. I didn’t have any M116s but this card just seemed so amazing. Some of the cards in this set are really beautiful. No idea why it’s a 4.5, PSA is really nuts sometimes. Would have been an 8 a decade ago.

Happy to have survived the recent E94 bloodbath hosted by REA and come away with a few upgrades. - |
Damn, those are some nice E94s.
|
Happy to add this combo to my T206 off back collection. I'm at 689 total cards with very few dupes.

My highlights from the REA E94 bloodbath. Will be a long time until we see E94s like these again.

Snagged my first Neilson Chocolates card today. Love the back script!

Buzz Arlett. In my opinion he is (121 MLB Games - 469 PA) the player with the shortest MLB career who one could make a fair argument for the Baseball Hall of Fame.

What a beast Tony. Great eye appeal. I’m looking for one as well. Beautiful card!! Congrats.
|
Pickups have been less and less this year as I focused my collection on quality > quantity, but I did pick up this beauty to cross a major want off the wish list!

Excited to add the Morehouse Baking backed M101-5 to my Sisler collection. If anybody has any other tough backed M101-4 or M101-5 cards of Sisler that they wouldn't mind parting with, I'm your huckleberry! |

Hi Mike. Jeesh, it's been a long time my friend! All is good. I hope that you and yours are great as well. Appreciate the kudos.
Sam, Scott - many thanks as well. Appreciate the nice comments. |
Not sure how I missed seeing that CJ Cobb before. Gorgeous example, Tony! Congrats!

I hope that you and the family are well! Fantastic Morehouse Sisler as well! |
I am down to some very specific categories of items I collect and this one has been on my Hank Aaron list for years:
https://photos.imageevent.com/exhibi...ron%20copy.jpg 1957-60 Preferred Products Milwaukee Braves. Another of those obscure local issues that I saw in the vintage book but never in the real world. I put in a SWAG snipe and ended up winning for exactly one bid increment below my max. |

Incredible pick ups so far this month! If I gave accolades they would be too numerous. Keep it going ...

REA e94's
Well was able to get at least one e94 from the REA auction. Or, as it's been called bloodbath. But did get this Matty as well.

Our forum members look like they are having a great month picking wonderful cards up.
This was a National pick up that didn't make the thread show yet... |

From the last Huggins & Scott auction. Glad to come away with one card I needed, some of the prices were pretty strong, I presume because of the front/back combinations. A PSA 8 #83 Paul Waner with a blue back went for $7800 while a PSA 8 with a green back went for $1050 in April.
I do collect front variations (e.g., Greenberg/Greenburg) but not the same front with different back color and year combinations. It's hard enough getting one of each card! |

A collector can never have too many Kottons. This one back from my first collection.
|
How bad was the buyback Leon? 3X?
|
Quote:
Bought back for 1166, almost exactly 10 yrs later from the original buyer..., not a bad deal. So, about 2x...which is less than I have bought back most of the other first collection cards for....I am happy. . |

All,
What a great month! Tony, That CJ Cobb is so nice. Rob, Love your Cobby too. Such a nice example. Not as big as those, but I picked up this 48 Leaf Wagner today at the Raleigh card show.... https://www.net54baseball.com/attach...1&d=1757812679 |

I’m not a graded card collector but always wanted this particular Mantle. To my untrained eye though, this card seems much better than its grade. Any idea what brought it down?
Rob Attachment 672013 Attachment 672014 |
Nice card!! What's with the ink or print dot on right side back?? Perhaps that's the deduction in grade?

Is that a print dot or maybe a piece of the gasket overlapping the card, which sometimes happens with SGC?

I love the 56 card. Yours is very nice for the grade. Top to bottom centering and maybe some surface wear & touched corners brought it down a bit. Who knows. Yours has great eye appeal. Congrats on the purchase!! |

Andy,
That’s an awesome Rube notebook cover! I really love the look of those and that one of the most eye catching ones I’ve ever seen. I’m going to have to break down and get one at some point. Throat would look great on the shelf. Congrats, Bob |

Been consolidating some cards to go after a card I have wanted for years. Decided I better pull the trigger before it gets out of reach. Thrilled to add it to the pile.

Mic drop addition Dean!
What a card! Congrats’ |

Awesome CJ Dean, congrats.

Congrats Dean on the nice 1915 Cracker Jack of Matty. I always found it interesting that the Cracker Jack folk made it appear on this card that Matty was about 20 years old (he would have been 34+ years old when this card was released), looking as young as does in the Carl Horner photo from the beginning of his career that was auctioned off last year. I wonder if they used a youthful photo of him to create the artwork, or perhaps they just wanted him to forever be the golden boy.
