for everyone! -- what's your favorite card of all time?

share pics and dialogue. stories, ideas, you name it. very exciting and fun topic for us all to participate in if you so choose!
i'll go first. 1953 satchel paige with wear. the lived aspect is crucial. i just got this piece today. very very happy. its everything about his mythos to me expressed in the portrait distilled in this beautiful painting. and as it was transferred to the industrial printing process of the card, it acquired another level and layer of power which isnt immediately apparent in the painting. to me this is the best card of all time, and my personal absolute favorite. so much of what satchel brought to the game in image-card form. excited to hear your picks, choices, and stories!! lets chat! |
Aesthetically, gotta go with the T218 Johnson side pose:

This one. The only card my Dad and I bought together. He wasn't one to drive to a card store, too busy trying to makes ends meet. On the one occasion we did he bought this card for me. Purchase price was $225 and I know he wasn't in a position to afford silly luxuries like baseball cards at the time. It meant/means the world to me and I would never sell it. - |

To me, it's 1933 Goudey Lou Gehrig. A lot of gorgeous cards, but right now this is it for me.

My all-time favorite card is the 1998 Donruss Crusade Red Larkin.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...6dc86d5e0a.jpg But if we are trying to focus on vintage, it's the 1964 Topps Rose or Robinson. I absolutely love the 64 design, even though a lot of people don't like it. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...5822b8fa74.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...1ca7b2830b.jpg |

ah a fan of one of the most storied franchises in the game i see! these are all really cool pics. i see you snuck in a venezuelan at the end :p! let me throw in the 59 topps frank robinson with you too. the black circle frame is like a fisheye lens almost; the reds logo and print on it make it feel like a cut still from a old school bond movie or something. these are great pics; thanks for sharing these cool cards!! 64 is a great set. |

I appreciate the kind words. I get a lot of joy from photographing my collection. I did slip a Venny in there. ;) I've been on a bit of a Venezuelan kick lately and this Robinson just came in the mail and I haven't shared it yet. An honerable mention for favorite card is this beast: https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...517c2962ac.jpg |

For me it is a pair. I bought these directly from Score back in the day. It is my 2 favorite players Wade Boggs and Roger Clemens on a wrong back pair. I have owned most of the cool cards and many many insanely rare cards but these have been by far my favorite cards since the day I bought them. I can't say I would never sell them but it would take life changing for me money to do it.

Yes, those are my current 3 copies. I love the write-up on back as well…so lengthy. The Cobb is quite striking also, such a neat set. |
Babe Ruth rookie, wish I had one!

This is an all time favorite card of mine in my collection. I don't like most of the 58 All Stars but this one always caught my eye:

These two are up there. The Dukes are fantastic. The Hank DS always a favorite. Wajo portrait as well (not pictured).

That question is so tough I'm going to limit myself to Baseball cards. And even at that I'm going to cheat by posting an uncut sheet of my 1962 Canadian Post Cereal cards featuring both Ernie Banks and Orlando Cepeda:
https://hosting.photobucket.com/85c5...0890436e72.png Neck-and-neck would be my sheet featuring both Rocky Colavito, Frank Robinson and Juan Marichal: https://hosting.photobucket.com/85c5...820313c252.jpg ;) |

I’m a Yankee fan, but if I was given one choice of a baseball card to describe to someone what a baseball card should look like it would have to be this one

My favorite is the T206 Christy Mathewson shown below, as it was in the first batch of 5 Prewar cards I ever picked up, and the pose and overall look mesmerized me into continuing collecting pre-WW2 cards.
Aesthetically Christy tops my charts as well with his "Creation of a Pitching God" pose seen in multiple 'E' candy card sets. So I guess at heart I (Ad)am a Matty man since Creation of this hobbyist. Brian Attachment 657899 Attachment 657894Attachment 657898 |

I sold mine when I built my house. It makes me think Mordecai might've been barnstorming around here, and maybe on a cow pasture field near my home.
Of course, that isn't likely, but I pretend it is. |

Always been my favorite card. Shows Kelly at the absolute peak of his popularity and career, just after he was sold to Boston for $10,000, at the time a colossal sum. The image depicted is the result of a photo shoot. Some years ago REA sold an imperial cabinet of a different image of Kelly from the same shoot, which is also depicted. |
I must go with the Philadelphia Carmels E95 Ty Cobb.

If the question is what is your favorite specific card you own, then it's this Speaker that my mom bought for me when I was 12.
If it's what card in general is your favorite (not a certain copy of it), then that's a tougher question and I probably have a dozen different answers, but for today it's Gwynn's 1982 TCMA. |

My favorite card, too. The pose was also used on the Yum Yum issue. |

It might change from day to day, but today here's my favorite. (I've shown this one before, so forgive me if it's familiar.) In 1909 the University of Wisconsin toured Japan to play against a bunch of college teams (professional baseball didn't exist there yet). The photo on this postcard was taken during the first game of the tour. It was mailed part way through the tour by one of the American players, telling one of his friends back home about what he's been up to and asking him to take notes in class for him because he's going to miss the beginning of the semester.

Hockey-1954-55 Topps Gordie Howe
Baseball 1953 Bowman Musial and 1959 Bazooka Mantle No basketball cards knock my socks off. |
Gotta be the one in my profile picture. Can’t get much more iconic than that as far as baseball history
|
If I were forced to narrow my selection down to a single specific card, it would be one or the other of my Warren Spahn cards:

For me, it is the 1934 Goudey of Lou Gehrig that is in Kawika's (David McDonald's) collection. Gehrig's gorgeous signature graces that card in the set that features him. To me, there is no better card in the hobby.

Larry is a sentimental favorite because he simply doesnt get his due respect in the game.

1957 Topps Mantle. It made a lasting impression on me as an 8-year-old collector. I bought one (PSA 5) as soon as I could afford it.

Different Kelly for me...
I've been looking for a nice example of this card for years and finally won this last summer at REA. |
Favorite card
Tough question- if I was forced, I'd vote the 53 Bowman Color Pee Wee Reese.
