Pre-WWII Bakery Cards

Actual card threads are some of my faves. And I imagine quite a few deals have been done over the years because of them.
Show one if you want to... A fairly recent D381 trade with a board member and shown a few times but still ... |

1911 Pacific Coast Biscuits. - |
I have always found bread issues to be tougher than cookie/ Biscuit issues. Mom was typically opening bread and was less inclined to save cards.

Another D310 Pacific Coast Biscuit, this one of Oscar Vitt, as well as a fun sheet cut D311 Pacific Coast Biscuit, D311's colorful little brother.

Probably not a Koester Bakery "card"
, but cut from a Koester Bakery poster promoting the subway series in 1921 featuring the Giants and Yankees
The poster is a thicker than regular cards' stock. Players from the New York clubs not in the regular set were included in the bread set. https://www.collectorfocus.com/image...oester-burkett Jesse certainly looks like a lock to become a future Hall of Famer. :D |
I guess when it comes to the Baseball Hall of Fame, sometimes being the one left holding the bag works out just fine.

I will follow Leon's footsteps and show one that I've shown before. It is the only Pre-WW2 Bakery issue I have though.

Love the bakery cards. Seems like Moms tossed most of these out with the bread wrappers !

Paul, I'm lovin' your D380 of Addie Joss. I'm also showing the back of my D380 type card for those who aren't familiar with this scarce issue.

Thanks Val ! Based on the SGC serial numbers, our two cards came from the same find quite a few years ago.

Even though D322 Tip Top Bread cards are somewhat small (about 1-3/4" x 2-3/8"), there's still a lot to loaf about them.

Lucky to pick this up from a fellow Net54 member last year -- appears to be the third example of this card to surface since 2003.
Riddle played in 98 MLB games, spread out between 1930 and '48 (age 42). He played 1,600+ minor league games, mostly in Indianapolis. He was a coach on Milwaukee's '57 World Series championship team. |

Jay, very nice Haffner's of the Babe - such a tough card! I'd trade my first born for a Haffner's Bread of Sam Rice! Here is my one Haffner's card:

Thanks Val! Not a bad player on yours.

Great stuff guys! Love those Haffners and that Bobby Doerr is sweet too, haven't seen that one.

I know this is stretching the Pre-WW2 specifications for this thread (but being from 1943 and 1944 these ain't no Post-WW2 issues), as well as the 'Bakery' designation, as officially these two cards are ACC classified as 'F' (Food), but I would argue bakers use flour in the baking process, so for the purposes of this thread I have unilaterally declared today as F340 International Centennial Flour Day.

Jim posted an example of a 1922-23 PB4 Kolb's Mother's Bread pin of Gilhooley earlier, but my existing scan of my 1920 Mrs. Sherlock's Bread pin featuring members of the minor league Toledo Mud Hens (mine is Joe Kelly, who had 3200 hits between majors and minors) also has the same Kolb's pin in it as well, so Mr. Gilhooley gets his bonus 15 minutes of fame. Which, if my math is correct, brings him up to a half hour of fame.
Brian (sorry about the back scans...my scanner isn't built for recessed items. At least it did a good job showing the pointy pins clearly, because on the front scan they are just blurs) |

Nice SB card of Speaker, Jim. I've never seen a SB card with an off-kilter back like this one. Hopefully, folks aren't tired of seeing D327 Holsum Bread cards. Here are both back variations of Sam Rice's D327 cards: |
