November Pick Ups
1 Attachment(s)
I didn't see a November pick up thread, so I'll start. These just arrived from REA's recent auction. The grades look awfully low to me. But I guess that's to my benefit because the grades apparently held the prices down.

Great pickups. Beautiful Gehringer.

#409 in the quest for a “complete” set.
2 Attachment(s)
It has been since August 2023 that a Howe-stamped card needed to get to a “complete” set of 522 has shown up (since the McCormick Howe Mercantile didn’t sell Polar Bear, there is no Demmitt or O’Hare). Jeff contacted me last week, saying he had found this in a lot he recently purchased and was checking to see if it was one I still needed. Indeed it was. Of the 114 needed to get to a complete set, it was one of the 85 I hadn’t seen show up in any auction or anyone’s collection.
Thanks, Jeff, now down to 113. |

My first (and given the current market, likely my only) Wagner. Super excited.

I was able to check another set off in my quest for early Indianapolis baseball — Denny was the last MLB position player to play his entire career without a glove.
It's been amazing to learn about so many issues through this site since I joined 3 months ago. Always on the lookout for an 1888 WG1 and 1950 Sawyer Biscuit 8x10 ... |

Jealous but a Great Card |
Quote:
Jeff, Congrats on that pickup!! Your Cobb collection is insane!! Looks like you still need to add a W600, Texas Tommy Type 1 and the Punch Cobb. :) Tony |
Tony, the Punch Cobb might be the last Cobb I really want. I had a chance to get it years ago in an auction and somehow screwed it up. I pester the owner once every few years and he has politely not moved for a restraining order. To his credit, he's collecting the set and is a great guy so I really have no good argument for deserving the card.

Tony, Dan has assured me he is being buried with the card so at this point I simply hope to outlive him. :)

Sheesh! Can someone please find an E94 Horde ala BSF so us poor saps who collect the set don't have to sell a kidney any time we want to add to our collections? Super happy to add these two and one of the nicest condition E99's I have seen. Along with the Crawford was an envelope from the consignor who purchased the card in 1980, kinda neat. - |
Nice

Not nearly as nice as Sam's recent pickup of the same card, but happy to add it to the backrun. 1 more known card to go which should be pretty easy.

Jerry, Tony, and Jeff, thanks for the kind words. Collecting E94's today is definitely a look in the mirror and role up your sleeves endeavor. Congrats on the Cobb NGO pick up DJ and good luck on closing out the run. Awesome Sweeney pick up Val. Congrats on the E90-3 Brown pick up Bondrus, fantastic image. |
Found another 1 of a kind Clemente item!
