Ok, someone has to be that guy and make that stupid comment:

Can anybody show a back run of 43 Larry Corcoran Old Judge cards?

Sorry - had to do that.

These threads are amazing, keep posting the different backs for the cards. These are the threads that are so fun to read. Ok, I'm like a second grader, these are the threads that have all the pretty pictures and not so much text.

Scott, I love seeing that color and back run. I have never done a color run but it is so enticing, and Speaker is such a great player to have a run of.

My contribution pales next to others posted, but for a low brow collector (note positioning of Cravath's cap), I am pretty savvy when it comes to Gavvy.

Missing near impossible (for me) Broadleaf and Carolina Brights backs.

Pete, I'm really liking your Dots Miller back run - congrats re completing it.

Nothing has been added to my Jennings back run since the last time I showed it. I'm still missing a Croft's Candy with a red back, a T216 Kotton with a "NGO" back, and a blank back. I've never seen any of these, but they should exist.

Leon 01-28-2024 04:34 PM

Thanks, Leon. I really enjoy seeing all the back runs (and front runs, too). The run that gets my attention the most is DJ's, because our runs are very similar backwise, and DJ has the backs in his run that I'm missing from mine.

Val, you are too kind. But I have to admit that, technically, it is not a Cuyler run at all, as the tan back variety spells his name 'Cyler'.

There I was at the Net54 pre-War collectors get together in No. Va. at the beginning of February, wearing my Hugh Jennings back-run T-shirt that Steve ("brass_rat") & Bryan ("Jobu") gifted me about 4 years ago, and in the process of setting up my card display at the beginning of this wonderful event (thanks to Ryan & Andrew!). Whereupon, Steve comes up to me, hands me a wrapped package, and says, "open it, it's for you." I do as instructed and see that it is another Jennings back-run T-shirt. Steve asks, "what's different about it?" Without thinking, I instantly respond, "the size?" "No" says Steve, "look more closely." I do this , and OHMIGOSH, I see that the back run on this T-shirt has an additional card! At this point, Steve pulls this additional card out of his pocket, hands it to me, and says, "it's for you." The card is a T216 Kotton Cigs with the "NEVER GO OUT" back that I had been searching for forever but never seen and all but given up hope of ever finding. Steve told me he came across this card in a collection he was considering acquiring and instatntly knew he had to get it for me. Bryan then updated his design work for the T-shirt, and Steve got the new T-shirt made. Yes, I'm prejudiced, but you won't find two nicer guys in our hobby and/or on this forum!

A pic of my previous Jennings back run appears in post #30 of this thread. Below are pics of both back-run T-shirts, my new back run, and the T216 addition to it:

Steve told me he came across this card in a collection he was considering acquiring and instatntly knew he had to get it for me. Bryan then updated his design work for the T-shirt, and Steve got the new T-shirt made. Yes, I'm prejudiced, but you won't find two nicer guys in our hobby and/or on this forum!

A pic of my previous Jennings back run appears in post #30 of this thread. Below are pics of both back-run T-shirts, my new back run, and the T216 addition to it:

This is the best thing I have read in a quite a while. Kudos to Val, Steve and Bryan. I love this.

Wow, that's amazing. I can certainly agree that Steve and Bryan are as good as it gets in the hobby. What a great story.

What an awesome thing! So great to read a story like that.

These runs are kind of neat to see side by side. I've never collected cards in this fashion but it is tempting.....

That is one of the coolest hobby stories ever!

Wow, just wow on some of these back runs (Blunder 19 are you kidding me? So impressive!).

I have been working on a T206 Red Sox team set with all different backs. Right now I have 7 of the cards. I have polar bear, sovereign, cycle, old mill, AB, tolstoi, and EPDG. I have found there seems to be a cutoff between AB and the next level up, which I would consider to be Hindu. Was fairly reasonable to find the ones I have but Hindu is a whole nother ball game and I still don't have anything tougher than that. I suppose Carolina Brights would be next. Still need Speaker (will probably just do Piedmont or SC), Cicotte, Stahl no glove, Kleinow and Spencer. This has been a fun project and these are the only cards in my collection where displaying the backs is as much fun visually as displaying the front.

I noticed you have two T213-2s for each chase run. Are these different? Or do you just have two copies?

Edit: I’ll keep my post in case anyone else was as curious and unobservant as me, but I now realize they are team variations.

Val, I'm just so happy that the card eventually turned up somewhere, and you were able to complete the run. (Now if anybody comes up with a blank back or a red Croft's, consider me shocked!)

The hardest part was waiting several months to surprise you in person. :)

I don't have all the cards in a montage, but I think I finally managed to complete a player back run in my T206 Providence set with this Arndt Broad Leaf. I think it's complete with Piedmont, SC350/25, SC350/30, Sovereign, AB350, Cycle, BL.
