Second Annual Mid-Atlantic Trade Day & Get Together
8 Attachment(s)
Andrew and I are happy to announce that we will be holding another collector get together in Chantilly Virginia.
The Date: February 10, 2024 Location: 1757 Golf Club- 45120 Waxpool Road, Dulles, VA 20166 Time: 11am - 5pm We expect this event will be similar to, but bigger than, the prior event. While not mandatory, the emphasis will be on vintage (especially pre war) baseball cards, but variety is welcome. Tables and chairs will be provided, but bring your cards and your display cases. Its a great opportunity to socialize, trade, buy, and sell cards with like-minded collectors. There is no cost to attend; there is no cost to set up; although we may choose a charity and ask for discretionary donations. Last year we had at least 20 different displays and at least 50 different attendees. We had visitors from NY to Virginia; we would love to expand the size and geographic representation. The location is very close to Dulles International Airport, the Udvar Hazy Air and Space Museum, and just outside Washington DC. Its a great excuse/opportunity visit the area. More updates and reminders will be provided as we get closer to game time. Here are some pictures from last year. We hope you can join us! Andrew and Ryan |
can't wait
I am so excited this is happening again. While I was only there for a few hours the last time, I loved meeting everyone and seeing cards that blew me away. Ping me back if you want any help with anything. Happy to volunteer any way I can to alleviate some of the effort that goes into this. Just sign me up!
|
Sounds like a great event and very interested in attending. The time of year is the one thing that will hold me back. I live in central Florida and the climate difference from possibly 30’s to 60’s/70’s in one day and the likelihood of getting sick because of the extreme weather change will prevent me from making the trip. I would think that a spring event would be ideal, maybe May/June if that is ever a possibility. Summer with vacations and traffic build-up might not be quite as appealing. I hope that all goes well for those who are able to attend and would love to hear the recap afterwards.
|
Thanks Andrew & Ryan! Looking forward to attending again!
For those not familiar with the area, the street address Ryan mentioned in his initial post is actually deemed to be in Sterling, VA, which is a few mile north of Chantilly (where the Chantilly Card Show is held). And, it is just off Route 28, which is pretty much a north-south interstate highway, although it isn't designated as such - it is the same Route 28 that goes by the Chantilly Show. |

|
Ill be there. Im looking forward to it!
|
Fantastic. Would love to attend again.
|
I'm excited to put this on my calendar again -- I thoroughly enjoyed the one this past year.
Thanks for organizing it! Steve |
I will be there. Had so much fun this year.
Bring the good stuff! :D |
Should be able to make it this year.
|
Last year's was great! I'm looking forward to February.
Andy |
Putting this on my calendar and looking forward to attending as the first one sounded like a lot of fun.
Scott |
Good luck with this, guys. It looks like a lot of fun!
. |
I have been getting lots of questions from potential new attendees.
There should be room for everyone and you can bring display tables. We will not have security -- the venue will not allow it unless we use theirs and its stupid expensive. This is within a country club for members only so we do not anticipate any issues and there was zero concern last time. Just make sure you can lock cases and mind your stuff and it should be no issue. Unlike last year, we are not limiting it to prewar baseball, although I expect that will be the bulk of the items and interest. I highly recommend keeping anything after 1980 home and likely little interest in anything other than the big 4 sports and maybe boxing; but I will stress it will be significant majority baseball and mostly pre war There is no fee, its free, and there is a grill where you can get food (thats on you) You can buy, sell, trade, just view stuff and/or share and socialize. I visualize it as an adult version of going to friends' house at age 8-14 to trade and hang out with a bunch of guys. |
If anyone is bringing a 52 Topps Mick in a 1.5 or 2 to sell, please PM me to discuss. Thank you.
|
As we are now about five weeks away from the event, I wanted to provide an update, as well as some additional information...
The hours for the event will be 11am to 5pm (not 12pm-6pm as originally advertised). A formal card display is absolutely not necessary, and plenty of people last year just brought a box of cards and walked around. It is fine to come even if you don’t bring any cards, but I would encourage you to bring whatever you collect. Since we don't know how many people will show up, for those of you that do want to set up a display, I will say that everyone should have room for two display cases (or equivalent). It is entirely possible that there will be more room than that, but no guarantee. For sure, a card show booth amount of stuff won’t work. For those that arrive early on, you will be limited to the two showcases until we know that there will be room to spread out. Table location will be on a first come/first served basis. Please watch your cards at all times. There will be a beverage station with water, iced tea, and lemonade. Those drinks will be free. Alcoholic beverages and food can be purchased from the restaurant and bar. Everyone will have their own bill/tab. I would request that you tip appropriately for good service. When you arrive at 1757 (45120 Waxpool Road, Dulles, VA), there will be plenty of parking in front of the clubhouse. Use the main entrance (photo below) and take a left once you are in the clubhouse. You will see the Monroe Room on your right. Name tags will be available, and are recommended, since many of us may only know names and/orNet54 profile names, but not faces. I am really looking forward to the event and hope to see a lot of you there. Andrew Finkelman http://www.net54baseball.com/attachm...1&d=1675891506 |

I’ll swing down and check it out.

See everyone soon
Looking forward!
|
Danny/Howard, excited to see you both. Danny, for a while now we have been talking about getting together; its sad that Andrew and i need to plan a whole event to make that happen! :)
|
I'm in the process of canceling my other commitment on Feb. 10 to come down for the day. Looking forward to it!
Thanks for organizing this. Cheers, Mike |
Oh man, wish I lived closer…
Is this strictly trading or do folks sell also? (If anyone sees a well centered 52 Topps Jackie in ~grade 2-3, look me up please!) Have a fun all Jeff |
Damn sorry guys I can't make this one. I am set up at a show that day in Silver Spring MD. Bummer! The Washington Times Babies enjoyed all of the attention last year. Dan
|
I'm going to try to come up for this - regretted not coming last time!
|
Quote:
Mike- love that. Great news! Dan M - unacceptable!!! The Silver Spring show is great for kids and modern; I know it well and find it a great place to get a Randy Moss base card or a 1/25 3rd year Luka Doncic. While there is nothing wrong with those cards/shows - that ain’t you! Come join us old people ogling cardboard of dead people. BTW - Dan M had some of the coolest stuff in the hobby and last year brought things from his collection that he does not put out at shows. If you don’t come Dan, the card quality in the room will be less for sure, however, the personality quality will go way up!! :) Dan B - We would love to see you and would be thrilled if you joined |
I'll be there with some of an unbelievable Phillies collection we just picked up. The Pre War cards alone filled 4 cheese boxes (yep, old school collector) and several albums. No Magie, but man the breadth and depth of this collection is mind blowing. Tons of esoteric post war as well.

I'm thinking how great it would be if this event were to evolve into the Annual Net54 Pre-War National!

Because there is so much to see and do in the DC area, I'm thinking that an annual event also would be popular with the non-collector wives and children. |

Agree with Val.
Baltimore baseball broadcaster/analyst Phil Wood used to run an annual vintage sports equipment show in the Baltimore-DC area for about 5 or 6 years in the late 1990's. It was about 50 dealers or so, who all were selling vintage sports equipment, memorabilia, uniforms, bats, balls, stadium seats, pennants, autographs, etc,... in all sports. It was really good show in different areas of Baltimore & DC (Bethesda, Timonium, Capital Hill, etc,...) Why not make this a vintage sports card & memorabilia annual show, with a focus on vintage baseball cards ? Attachment 604142Attachment 604142Attachment 604142 |
Speaking of memorabilia, I am going to try to attend as my parents recently moved a couple of hours from there so it will be a good excuse to see them. I plan to bring some lemon peel and other early baseballs, some early bats, and some 19th century ephemera. Some will be for show but others will be for trade or sale. Thank you for offering this!

Mid-Atlantic Trade Day
Ryan/Andrew - JoeT here and it sounds like this event was a huge hit last year. I wish I could make it, but a 12-13 hour round trip drive is just a bit too much for a one day 6-hour event. Wish I lived closer. Congrats to both of you for putting together such a popular gathering!
|
Val, that is a great idea…
Joe T and Dan, sorry you won’t be able to make it! |
Looking forward to trade day
I think it's great that you're hosting this. I am a prewar collector and am going to bring all sorts of odd and unusual things to potentially trade.
|

That's got to be a record! Look forward to meeting you there. |
While I'm more of a post war collector, I definitely would love to make one of these! Familial circumstances have me locked into home for the next couple of months, but maybe 2025 will be on the table. My experiences meeting members from the board have been nothing but positive so far!

I hope you can make it as I am planning on attending as well. It would be great to see you and catch up on things. Scott |
The Big Mo?
So sorry to hear that Danny can't post, but this one does seem to be shaping up to be an even bigger deal than last year, which was a lot of fun. Great to hear from all those coming for the first time. Not sure I'm up to bringing any stuff this year, maybe just a few WaJo books to sign and "Glory" CDs to sell, hanging out, having lunch--good food there--then heading back home about an hour away. Not a bad way to spend an afternoon. And where else you gonna to see so much serious eye candy packed into such a small venue, and get to meet and talk to so many Forum guys in one place at the same time? This could get to be be pretty legendary.

Ryan, I was trying to surprise you and come down with my son, but unfortunately it ends up we're jammed that weekend. Have a great time, and I hope to make the next one.

This is shaping up to be bigger than last year. If we can get some real traction, perhaps it becomes the Vintage National |
Hank, I meant to grab a WaJo book last year... definitely will this year. Glad you can make it.

Second Annual Mid-Atlantic Trade Day & Get Together
In an effort to help a very worthwhile cause, Ryan and I have chosen Wolf Trap Animal Rescue (https://www.wtarescue.com/) as a charity to support, in connection with our trade day/get together.
The mission of this organization is to rescue high-risk dogs and cats, mainly from Mississippi, where young animals are euthanized by the hundreds every day. Since 2015, WTAR has successfully rescued over 12,000 dogs and cats, and transported them to the DC area. After being bathed, vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed/neutered, they are placed in foster homes until they find their forever homes through local adoption events. The transport of animals from Mississippi occurs on a nearly weekly basis. My family adopted our dog Bo (photos below) through WTAR, and donate to them frequently. Our get together is free to attend, however, voluntary donations will be accepted at the event, with all proceeds going directly to WTAR, which is a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization (EIN: 47-5126237). I would encourage you all, whether attending our event or not, to donate to this very worthwhile cause. For those of you who prefer to donate directly to WTAR, that can be done easily through their website. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...0f9457ec80.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...102c7a1e48.jpg |
just so long as you're not bringing puppies. I have no self-restraint where dogs are concerned and my wife would kill me :)

This is awesome. I sure wish I was able to attend this event and meet some awesome collector, I’ve yet to meet and see amazing cards and collections. I can however give back a little to the organization. Thanks and god bless. |
Scott, To avoid being complicit in a murder, there will be no puppies at the event. ;)
Josh, I hope you will be able to attend one of these in the future... Quote:

I am going to try and be there again this time... if only to remind all the card guys that we photo guys want some respect too! :)
Thank you Ryan and Andrew for doing this for us! We need an original type 1 Conlon photo used as the image for some cards,,, Rob Slatkin |
Hopefully someone takes and posts a lot of photos from this event. I have too much going on this year for a last minute trip but I may plan ahead and attend next year.
|
If this "get together" gets legs -- grows year over year for a few years, Andrew and I may seek to convert it into the "Vintage National".
How we define "vintage" would be up for debate, but I am thinking all sports, all types of stuff (cards, photos, memorabillia, etc) from 1979 or earlier. Ozzie Smith Ok, Rickey Henderson not OK. |
