Ty Cobb-phenomenal player & cards
1 Attachment(s)
With Honus Wagner playing days cards in the stratosphere and Joe Jackson’s not far behind and significantly more scarce (Wagner with 3,576+ total graded* cards to Jackson’s 1,484+ total graded*), time to feature an equally phenomenal player yet slightly more attainable and affordable: Ty Cobb, the Georgia Peach.
According to PSA POP Reports, there are over 225 playing days sets or variations therein, graced by Ty Cobb during his 24 year career from 1905 to 1928. In total there are over 10,700 PSA graded Cobb playing days cards. Of these, 2,457 (23%) are red portrait, 1,037 (9.5%) are green portrait, and 188 (2%) are other such as pastel and blue. Remaining are 7,028 (65.5%) PSA graded cards, such as T202 (stealing 3rd center panel pictured here). Let’s share some favorites, rarities and more! *Refer to grading co POP reports for most up-to-date and accurate data. |

Consigned to auction, but technically still mine for now, and forever awesome.

Thankfully I bought this before prices got too elevated on his T206 green background cards (even in this type of condition).

Snapshot of Ty @ the 1932 Olympics. Certainly not the most glamorous shot of all time..

Aaron - we have very similar tastes. When I was working on the different E92 sets, my "White Whale" was the Nadja of Cobb. I never had one, never saw one and actually doubted its existence until yours and the couple of others surfaced. What a great card.
This is card is not mine, but belongs to a fellow collector. I have always liked the E286 Ju-Ju Drum cards. I imagine that there are less than 10 of this one out there. |

My modest addition to the beautiful cards and photos above:

NFS. Recent add. While others were going for garters, I was eyeing this 350-460/25 rarer beauty. Pop 3, only 5 higher.
|
I am thoroughly surprised Cobb's prices have lagged behind Wagner and Jackson, not that I own any Cobb's but still. The long perpetuated myths about him, are probably still doing his reputation some damage, I'm sure, but you would think the Man that held 90 records at one point, would be valued more highly in the hobby.

Brunswick--
I think you are going to have to put together a Cobb pop report, as you did for Jackson and Wagner (sorry!). And we should probably archive these somewhere? |
