Beautiful card Jeff, congrats on that pickup!

Rhotchkiss 09-01-2023 08:48 PM

Super cool piece Leon. That’s legit history. Is that the earliest known woman’s baseball image?

Jeff, your BS Ruth ain’t half bad either. Congrats on a monster pickup

brass_rat 09-01-2023 08:54 PM

Very nice, Leon -- great image and piece.

Jeff -- congrats on an awesome card!

Another rookie for my pre-war HOF run.....

Missed the 1919 WS on account of the flu.....

Per Ray Schalk, had Faber been available, the fix would likely have never happened. Had Faber been healthy, he would almost certainly have gotten some of the starts that went to two of the conspirators, Eddie Cicotte and/or Lefty Williams.

One can only wonder :)

Amazing pick-up Jeff

mrreality68 09-02-2023 06:15 AM

Thanks Michael, Ryan, Steve, Bill, Chris, Brian and Eric

Appreciate the kind words. And as many of us often do we sacrifice part of our collection to upgrade or get a bucket list card.
This one one of mine and gave up alot but have no regrets(YET):D:D

Looking forward to a great month of cards from the group and looking forward to see them all.

I wondered how many of those Ruth cards would end up members hands, congrats Jeff, Jeff, and Ryan. Great pickups.

mrreality68 09-02-2023 03:44 PM

This looks like it will be a strong month for this group.

Great pickup Leon, Ryan(those do look familiar), and Jeff (great Felix Mendelssohn Ruth… Smoking) and ken WOW on that merchant bakery back.

Keep them coming

Rhotchkiss 09-02-2023 03:52 PM

Wow, congrats Jeff! I was hoping your card liquidation was for something fun, this definitely qualifies. I've been silent on the pickup boards since late last year as I spent the last nine months selling/consigning and abandoning collecting goals after I quite unexpectedly was able to pick up a card of a lifetime for me, so I know a little about that sacrifice, but like you I also have no regrets. Enjoy that beauty! As Ryan likes to say, monster pickup.

Thanks appreciated and the rest of the items that went to auction in November will hopefully help with my next key pickup after that.

All about allocating the resources and staying focused on what I like(and I struggle staying focused with so many nice items coming up all the time)

I started collecting vintage soccer this spring. Fisrt thing I did was start researching players, and discovered Ricardo Zamora. Zamora is the goalie in the white sweater. The Spanish league’s yearly trophy is named for him. Kinda like Cy Young.

The 1920s era cards are beautiful, mostly paintings like baseball tobacco. Almost all of them were issued with chocolates. This set has 8 players with 18 cards each making a puzzle. I purchased the entire set. These are the first cards made for Barcelona.

Jaime Boix actually made a similar set of world leaders, the Woodrow Wilson is cool.

Me too. They are a great value relative to cards of the era and look really good. Plus, the pin slabs are a ton easier to store.

I saw this at a paper fair and had to have it. Max Baer as world champ. The image is common; he used it for his fan pictures. What made it special is that it is an 11 x 14 rotogravure on heavy cotton rag paper, so definitely made as wall art. That I have not seen before.
