Mounting stains on the back but I didn’t mind them, beautiful front. Tough card. Always like collecting Clarke.
|
Happy to add a tough card that's even tougher in an off back.....

Another towards a “complete” set

Actually struck the deal in May but the replacement card then this one arrived in June. Thanks, Jonathan.
Won five from Greg Morris last Friday and will post those when they arrive. There are also four others on my need list that I either need to find replacements for or come to a deal with the owner on. Plus I’ve heard rumors that there is a HoFer coming to someone who might be willing to part with it. Fingers crossed. Thanks to everyone on the board who lets me know when they see one. |

1922 Eastern Exhibits
Nice Cobb…not sure why the exhibits from this set have lagged others, it’s a difficult set and for exhibits still early (1922) in the decade. Wajo, Grover C Alexander, Cobb, Ruth, Hornsby, Collins, Speaker, Heilman all in the set.
|
Ben, love both those postcards! I guess more and more people are reading Adams book about exhibits and the secret is getting out. Can’t go wrong with any of the 1922 Eastern exhibits loaded with HOFers

Not a card but it is the end of a quest I began in the late 1970s. This is the last Orioles media guide I needed to complete my collection of printed guides and yearbooks for them and the Baltimore Colts. Time and again I was either outbid or 'out-budgeted' until I had my offer accepted last week. And it looks to be nicer than many of the ones I missed out on. It's on its way to the authenticator (I didn't know anything other than cards got that treatment) and then into my hot little hands.

Some nice pick ups from members so far. Bob, congrats on closing out your almost 50 year quest, quite an accomplishment.
Val and Leon, thanks for the good wishes. Ed, yes, Dave was kind enough to let go of this one from his PC. Fun stuff. |

Picked up these two C56 key hockey rookies. There have been PSA registry fights going on in the C55, C56 and C57 that have exploded prices recently. These are really fun vintage cig cards and the only sport besides baseball to have substantial prewar sets. Trying to finish these sets so had to grab a couple nice but lower graded examples from the dupes sold off by the registry contestants.

Attachment 574349Picked up this lot at the WSSCA show. There was some really incredible stuff in the room, especially for PCL collectors.

After over 2 years of trying to educate an eBay seller what he had, I finally got this for my original offer. The seller had listed a ton of 5.00 or less crap-o-la and this item. Of course he acts like it’s the Holy Grail, and that he is representing a consignor. He ended up completely copying Dan McKees description of another currency, and started it out around 5k. Slowly he kept lowering the price and it became a quarterly thing for me to make the same offer and ask him if he was tired of paying all the fees to show it. He finally accepted and now I don’t have to see it pop up every time I do my currency search. First time I’ve made an eBay purchase in over a year as well, and after my purchase eBay wanted me to take a sports card survey which I was happy to really let them know how bad their platform has become for pre war sport cards.

Huge thanks to Chris B, this is a major rare back for my Chase run, quite a tough combo for this pose. Up to 17 cards in the run.

Thanks!
Maybe Chris can chime in, he is the resident expert on the Chase run. I think it's low-20's without coupons, and mid-high-20's with. The next card I’m seeking is the Cycle 460, then after that it gets VERY tough. But I’m really happy with where the run is at now...(I'm also busy finishing my run of all known backs in general- brands, series, factories, ink color variations.) |
Looking good Mike!
I think there 28 confirmed; five coupons, a victory & 22 T206s. Maybe a blank, BL460 or Drum will show up one day. |

Great pickups everyone! Pete, the signed Ruth is amazing!
Just go this via trade with a board member: Feels awesome to be able to pair this incredibly rare Ferguson Bakery with the Fleischmann copy I had of Mathewson: The Ferguson name is "Christy" with one line of identification, and "Christopher" on the Fleischmann with 2 lines of text. |
The pair belonged together
Congrats Erik |
If you bring in a miscut F50 do you get only half a scoop of ice cream?
That signed Ruth Exhibit, wow, that is my kinda card! I had a lot of those transit passes years ago; wonder if that was my old group coming to market? Here is another sports one: https://photos.imageevent.com/exhibi...ay%20Louis.JPG This is actually a picture of Joe Louis from a fight he had with Lee Ramage in Los Angeles in 1935. |

Kruger, McElveen, Miller, Rossman, and Spencer all came from Greg Morris Cards via eBay (actually they were part of a lot from an REA auction in May that had a group of Howe’s stamped cards).
Schmidt was one I missed when Scott was auctioning off the large lot he won from Goldin. But I knew who the winner was, and he recently contacted me to see if I might still be interested in adding him with the rest. As a surprise, he had also found a Phelan with the Urich H. McCormick - Agent, Saturday Evening Post stamp (so far only found in green) so I got it also. These bring the total up to 390 different Howe-stamped cards on the way to trying to build a complete set, with 17 of those being his Saturday Evening Post stamps. |

Thought I would share my T206 progress. Started early April working toward the 520 on a budget. I have 68 cards which is around 13%, with 12% of the HOFers, and 15% of the Southern League. No Cobbs just yet :(
|
Great start and great looking collection! Congrats!
